Summary

The issue of representation is often discussed in the academe, especially representations in mass media. Cultural experiences are not just a political contest, but also an assemblage of ideologies and practices, social economic or historical that is beyond the confines of language and demarcated national boundaries. One of the best examples may be drawn from the fierce nostalgia that characters in Amitav Ghosh's novel "The Shadow Lines" (1988) experience, with their constant fight against the Diasporic detachment with Dhaka, when a crude border drawn with the 1947 Bengal Partition made Hindus leave East Bengal for good.
