The decision of the customer to monitor the progress of the project is quite unacceptable. The involvement of the customers actually made the project hectic in nature. They interfered a lot with the duties of Reichart and other staff in the trophy project. They also asked for reports at regular intervals regarding the proceedings of the project. This had actually consumed a lot of time. It is an additional burden on Reichart and other staff of the project. Their work is actually hampered by customer interaction.

The rationale supporting the customers' act was that they are the beneficiaries of the project. They thought that since they are the beneficiaries of the project they have the right to interfere with the progress of the project. Good steps for Reichart:As mentioned earlier the intention of Reichart was good. He did not intend to cause harm to the functional managers. But he shouldn't have mentioned the functional managers in the report in order to solve the situation. He could have made the situation better through other better steps.

One of the options he had is to have a meeting with the functional staff. In the meeting, he should make clear to the functional staff about the probable consequences of the non-completion of the project in time. If he feels that meeting will not solve the problem he could have introduced a small incentive system for motivating the functional staff. The commission or incentives should be introduced for the functional staff that performs well in the organization. This method will surely motivate staff for better incentives.

The additional cost that is incurred for incentives would be much below the cost of project overrun.
