It has set the precedent for globalization to occur on a far greater scale. I am able to say this more so because coming from a country that does not speak English, I realize the importance placed on this language in my region. Any individual who excels in this language is considered an ambitious and successful person who has learned and exceeded far beyond his own person.

It is for this reason that the English language has always held a revered and important position in our household. This essay will continue to explain the value and excellence that I as an individual have achieved in my quest to improve at a language, that is not my own. To begin with, all my courses have been in the English language. This has ensured that my command of the language is excellent enough for me to comprehend and grasp the meaning behind what I am studying. This is evident in the various essays I have written in and out of class.

The first and second in-class essays required an opinion on conflicts affecting the world and its participation today coupled with the role played by politicians and their personal lives. It is immensely difficult for a student with a sparse knowledge of the English language to write an essay portraying their opinion. Yet, I was able to do so without any hesitance or problems. The problem, that arises for any foreign student is their means of translating their native tongue into the English language while thinking of an argument to write in the essay.

However, I did not feel compelled to think in my native tongue. Instead I chose to write all my drafts in English before perfecting it for the final draft. While this may seem like a small feat to those honed for English writing, it is a great accomplishment for an individual like me. Other examples that prove my fluency in English are the out of class essays that had to be submitted for this course. It is fair to assume that these essays required a considerable degree of research. While this might seem like an easy task for an individual who is proficient in the English language, it was difficult for me because of the use of complex terminology.

Not only was I able to write on two diverse topics: finance and reasons for school-drop outs, but I succeeded in discovering the true gist behind these ideas. I was able to understand and state both the essays in a concise and well-researched format, which I feel is huge success. Thus, while English might not be my native tongue, I have spent countless days and nights to perfect it. I can now write two strikingly different types of essays: opinionated and researched. Though it may not be as excellent as that of my fellow classmates, it does show a degree of improvement that ensures my ability to meet the established academic standards.
