When Hamlet tells Rosencrantz that he is a "sponge" he means that he is now soaking up the King's favors and when the King is done with him he will squeeze Rosencrantz dry. Scene 3 2. Why does Claudius say he must hide the haste with which Hamlet is being sent away? a. He wants it to seem as if Hamlet's trip to England is determined only after careful consideration because people like him. 3. What does Hamlet tell Claudius he has done with Polonius? a. Hamlet tells him that Polonius is at supper or in heaven or, perhaps, under the stairs. 4. What does Claudius arrange to happen to Hamlet when he arrives in England? a. He orders for Hamlet to be executed immediately.

When Hamlet comes home, the King will get people to praise Laertes' skill with his rapier in front of Hamlet, and a bet will be made that Hamlet is better. At the match, Laertes will have a sword without a protective button on the tip so Laertes can kill Hamlet. 13. What is their back-up plan? a. Laertes had poison to put on his sword so even a scratch would kill Hamlet. When Hamlet needed a drink, the King would give him poisoned wine. 16. What additional character traits does Hamlet display in this act if any? a. When Laertes' says he will "cut his throat ' the church" it reminds us that Hamlet had the chance to kill the King while he was praying but didn't.
