It is very important to note that if your calorie intake is greater than the calories your burn, you will gain fat. Keeping a record of every thing that you consume will help you track down the total calories you consume per day. Comparing it with your calorie requirements (approximately 2400 per day to maintain your weight (Requirements, 2008)) would give you an idea of how well you are doing and where you are going wrong.A point that is to be made here is that it is not wise to cut down your calories by too big of a margin.

Experts say that going below 1000-1200 calories a day can trigger your body to go into ‘starvation mode’ (Kellow, 2007). In this mode, the body starts saving fat reserves and uses muscle to provide with the calories needed resulting in a loss of muscle. This causes the metabolic rate to slow down and can actually turn out to be counter productive. Conclusion It is evident that staying in shape is not exactly the ‘impossible’ job it is dreaded to be. A few compromises made can bring a great amount of difference in your lifestyle.

Taking care of your body and giving it the respect it deserves can help you in several other ways too. It gives you self confidence, boosts up your morale and leaves you looking good! Therefore, when we have more muscles, our body will burn more calories. 1 extra lb of muscle will make your body burn 50 extra calories everyday without having you to do anything at all. Exercising will compliment your deficit greatly, but building muscle goes way beyond that. The more muscle we have, the higher our body’s metabolic rate.
