The Ethics Awareness Inventory Test - Essay Example

Personally, this test helped me to become more aware of how different people can approach the same situation in different ways. Identification and alertness of the core beliefs underlying ethical decisions are critical to our ability to communicate our position and to realize the desired result in ethical decision-making.

Thus, the implication of ethical principles is vital in making reasonable choices. First of all, I have decided to work on understanding the principles and processes that I am currently using for making ethical decisions. I want to spotlight the core beliefs that I currently have, even though I know that there are no right or wrong answers, I still want to be able to see the difference between right and wrong and to make an important personal judgment about a matter that will have a significant impact on the lives of real people.

Even though it is obvious that we have to choose what we consider "right" while making tough decisions, it is of high importance to develop a process that will guide our struggle in making ethical decisions. My guide that I am currently working on takes into account a variety of aspects that can potentially affect the immediate decision and its effect on other people. For making ethical decisions I have accustomed myself to considering three aspects, which arePeopleRulesSituationThe problem I was confronted with while developing this guide was the uncertainty of what ethics and morals entail.

The concept of right vs. right originated with Rushworth M. Kidder Ph.D., founder and president of the Institute for Global Ethics in Camden, Maine (www.globalethics.org). He discusses the concept of right vs. right and other issues involved in resolving ethical dilemmas in his book How Good People Make Tough Choices, published by Simon & Schuster helped me to find out the main difference. During this course, I have learned to appreciate the ethical perspectives of others and how to work with people whose perspective is different from mine.

I managed to increase awareness of the most common ethical theories individuals use in making decisions as a result of completing the Ethics Awareness Inventory. I gained a better understanding of how to apply my personal beliefs and values to daily decision making-both personally and professionally.
