From 1999 till 2004 reform in areas of Ambulance services and emergency services were beginning to sprinkle upon and NHS as part of its focus on these new services NHS has decided to introduce in the year 2004 new type of Practitioner called Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP). An ECP is usually picked up from Paramedics, people with a nursing background, and other healthcare professions like physiotherapy, etc.An ECP is usually given training or they even take up courses at the university level so as to get the required proficiency and in-process enhance their role and its scope.

Flexibility and adaptability are considered as key requisites in performing the roles and in obtaining success as a practitioner. Some of the other skills which an ECP should be able to perform are minor surgical procedures in the field, System based assessment & otoscopy/ ophthalmoscopy, and prescription of medicines like antibiotics. It is a requirement as apart of job role that they give an immediate response to injuries in different environments like minor injury units, out of house services and A& E departments (Accidents and Emergency departments).

I feel that I would be able to contribute to this ever-changing environment of Emergency Care Practitioners as I have gained a certain level of experience and proficiency in the paramedic's section and the knowledge I gained from the paramedic department will give me an advantage in working in Emergency and Ambulance services department. Having worked alone on rapid response vehicles has given me the confidence to deal with Emergency Medicare situations and has initiated the quality of flexibility and adaptability which I believe is one of the key traits in becoming a successful Emergency Care Practitioner.

I have come to know that some of the ECPs will be involved in treating people in the community which has attracted my attention as I believe I can render my services to people in their homes. Having experience of start-up telephone triage and patient call back system, I believe I have nurtured the right mindset for learning the ECP courses and in process help and add value to ambulance services. The best thing which attracts to an ECP and thus makes me enthusiastic to apply to this course is that I would be involved in acute care and emergency care situations and gaining such an experience would grow me both as a medical practitioner and also in process respond to ever-changing needs to bringing healthcare to people at a faster pace than ever.

Thus I believe that my experience and my goals in achieving a faster response to patient's medical needs would make me an able contributor in this field.
