It is our intention to produce for you a show that focuses like a laser on historical accuracy while also providing your audience with entertainment unlike they can find anywhere else.

Some might call this show a soap opera, but do you know how Webster's defines a soap opera It is a serial drama chiefly characterized by tangled interpersonal situations. In other words, you could describe Desperate Housewives as a soap opera as well as William Shakespeare's Hamlet as a soap opera. The difference, of course, lies in the construction and the presentation. Was Buffy the Vampire Slayer not simply a soap opera with vampires And yet, today you can find college courses devoted to themes and philosophy of that show, as well as highly skilled academic papers.

Call it a soap opera, or a historical drama, our show is guaranteed to draw viewers in with sex, violence, romance, backstabbing, politics, religions and some of the most infamous historical figures of all time. The title of our show tells it all: The Borgias. The story of the infamous Borgia family and their political machinations around the turn of the 16th century is one so fraught with tangles of authentic and historically documented interpersonal relationships involving everyone from the Pope to Machiavelli that we have no need to transform this from history to fiction.

Let's face it, if you tried to pass off the real stories of Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia and their multiple love affairs and murders of political rivals, nobody would believe. The Borgias represents a very real opportunity for the History Channel to leap into the world of original primetime drama with an exciting and, we promise, historically accurate show that will appeal to older viewers because of the history and younger viewers who will take one look at this story of a Renaissance-era Sopranos and keep coming back for more.

We have a terrific cast lined up as well. Alexis Bleidel, who was so incredibly popular on the hit show Gilmore Girls, is very excited about taking on the role of Lucrezia. Wes Bentley, who blew everyone away with his performance in American Beauty, is eager to play Lucrezia's brother Cesare. Gary Cole, a star on TV and film, will guest star in a minimum of ten episodes per year as Nicolo Machiavelli. And we're very excited to announce that Oscar-nominee James Caan has signed on to play Roderigo Borgia.

We think that The Borgias would settled in quite comfortably at the 9:00 spot on Sunday in your lineup and fashion for the History Channel an exciting new direction for how history is soaked up by viewers.
