Qualities an Effective Service Manager Should Posses
The candidate should have general management skill as well as knowledge about his/ her area of product or service. He should have a sound background with considerable experience that matches the designation for which he is being recruited for. The candidate should have a “positive” attitude. They should have;
• A strong desire to remain a member of the organization.
• A strong belief in and acceptance of, the values and goals of the organization.
• A readiness to exert considerable effort on behalf of the organization.
The person should have good communication skills and should pose and present himself in a very decent and sophisticated manner. In a service organization, tone of communication (Gareth & Charles, 2005), the managers’ skills of presenting himself and the looks do matter a lot. The candidate should prove himself to posses these through his dressing and communication style.
He is not only supposed to be a manager due to the hierarchical stance but should be able to socialize well with his/her department. He should have the abilities and knowledge to be an important part of the organization. The person is expected to demonstrate the set of skills that will enable him in managing the local workforce along with managing and restricting the amount of knowledge to be transmitted through the formal as well a the informal (Gareth & Charles, 2005) organization (or even grapevine).
