The role of the teacher is well defined and their tasks are cut out properly. Also, role of the students in their classroom is mentioned. Their studies are managed properly by the teachers through standard methodologies and proper disciplinary system is put in place, which takes control of the student's discipline. An incentive system credits the student for good behavior and at the same time punishes and corrects them for bad behavior. A proper communication system is established with the parents to inform them continuously about their ward's performance and conduct. A classroom should be designed in such a way, that it is enthralling and at the same time more informative to the students. The sense of comfort should be instilled into every student by the classroom atmosphere. The classroom should contain facilities which provide good comfort to the students and atmosphere should be made informative through charts and bulletin boards. A proper place to sit, a place to have fun and a place to do learning activities has to be specifically allocated. The class room should provide an atmosphere of learning. The students should be allowed to enjoy their learning. The educational system adapted should kindle their inquisitiveness to learn new things and at the same time allow them to come out with their own ideas. Equal importance should be given to non academic activity which identifies student's area of expertise and interests. From teachers perspective each and every corner of the room should be visible to the teacher's eyes. They must be able to provide equal attention to every student in the classroom without any consideration of where they sit. Considering the design of class room from a student's perspective, their average height should be taken into account and seating arrangements should be suitably planned. The light arrangement in the classroom should be in such a way that it provides a soothing sight of the board and other charts to the children's eyes. Classroom rules The rules in a classroom form the bridge between the student and the teacher. So, framing the rules of a classroom for third grade plays an important part in management planning. Rather than conventional rules, these rules should make students understand their mistakes and rectify them. Rather than punishing for not adhering to the rules the students should be taught the goodness that comes by following the rules. When a child misbehaves or disobeys any of these rules, he or she must be given minimal punishment and a lot of advice so as to correct himself. Common and high intensity mistakes can be punished in front of others so that those mistakes would not influence other students. The teacher should be able to motivate students and create a peaceful atmosphere to learn. He or she should be able to go down to the level of students to teach them in their own way. Teachers need to respect everyone's privacy and abide by the moral issues. They need to understand and act according to the code of ethics and the principles of professional conduct of the educational profession in Florida. It is the duty of a teacher to guarantee equal opportunity for all. The teacher's primary concern should always be for the student and for development of the student's potential. For this to happen, each student should be made to understand the role played by them. The parents can be made to get involved in their child education through any classroom activities. These activities should be planned in such a way that it has a role to be played both for the parent and the child. Conduct a study of the child weekly through their parents. For example, every parent can be given a video tape which they could use to record the activities of their child in home. This helps them to study their children personally and allows them to discuss a great deal about them with the teachers. Provide homework to students in such a way that involves the parents to do certain amount of work. This allows them to learn about their child better. For example, students can be asked to create a photo album of their family. They could do this with the help of their parents. Then they could share it with their classmates and enjoy it. This helps in a better jelling among everyone. Plan for first day of school A first day to school should always be made a memorable one. Lots of fun and joy should ooze through every student. A striking and attractive invitation should be sent to all parents inviting them to first day of school The classroom should be decorated with lots of things like balloons, lights, teddy bears, pillows and other fun stuffs. Design of proposed classroom setting Strategies for maintaining discipline Maintaining proper discipline among students is a big thing to do considering their nature. Several different strategies are followed in order to maintain discipline. Several rewarding systems and punishing systems are established to get them going properly. In order to avoid latecomers, make them sit alone in front or at the back of the class. Cut down unnecessary interruptions by students going to bathrooms. A rewarding system like presenting a check of gift to students for their good behavior and a fine of time out or extra homework for their bad behavior can be given. Also, a color paper system can be installed. Four colors of green, yellow, orange and black papers are kept for each student. Initially each student is given a green paper. If he misbehaves, a yellow paper is given to him. If he misbehaves again on the same day, an orange paper is given. Finally a black paper is given and the student is sent to the principal office for further punishment. Students who hold on to their green papers can be rewarded with some gifts or medals. They can also be given the responsibility of maintaining a small group to encourage leadership quality Keep the students organized when they perform each activity step by step. Allow students to communicate with each other during lunch times and intermediate between classes but never during class hours. However they can intervene with their teachers to ask doubts. For students doing mischief and clowning, identify them and give them a private warning initially. If they don't follow, give them a time out and make them stand alone for 5 to 10 minutes. Solution to scenario 1: Once the students get to segregate based upon their color and gender, it is emergency to pluck of that kind of feel as soon as possible. This might lead to some racist behavior in their future life. As they are in sixth grade, a sense of equality can be easily instilled into the young minds. Initially a feel of friendship should be developed between the students. Both the black and white students should be made to realize that they all are same. They need to mix together in order to show their strengths. All the boys and girls should be mixed and divided into small groups first. Then each student can take a paper and interview every other person in the group. They can then present a review of what they learnt about every other person to the whole class. They could find out the similarities between them. This would ensure an equal mind among them. Later, if that doesn't work a photo of each student is fixed on the desk and associating each student, a chart is prepared and placed in the bulletin board as to where they should sit. This would ensure a friendship to develop initially. After a while, this can be removed, as students get to know about each other well and they would sit properly. Solution to scenario 2: As a teacher, when I see 'Leslie McClendon' being abused by his classmates, I would get everyone's attention towards me. Ask all the boys to stand around me and listen to me. First of all, I would ask them to apologize to Leslie for abusing him. I would try to console Leslie that it is not a girl's name and even if it is so, he should not feel ashamed of anything. A sense of moral belief should be given to him. Then, I would insist Leslie to stand away for a while and advice the rest. I would tell them the effects of abusing a person. I would give examples of real life incidents of the tragedies that happened due to abusing. I would ask everyone to take a piece of paper and cut it like humans. Then I would ask them to impinge it with pencil. Now I would ask them to reattach those impinged pieces. This would help them understand better how a person gets hurt when he is abused. Following this, I would give a private warning to whoever abuses him again. After that if they still continue with their abuse they would be put to fines and reported to the authority and parents. 1. A demonstration of adherence to the Florida State Code of Ethics. According to the Florida State Code of Ethics, all the disciplinary rules are properly followed. Students were given a safe place to learn. They were provided with a peaceful atmosphere, and a fun filled place to learn. Fine systems and punishment systems were established in order to protect the students from unnecessary embarrassment or disparagement. None of the student privacy or their legal rights was violated. None of the students were racially discriminated and a sense of equality was entrusted in all the students. None of the teachers are allowed to accept any gift or gratuity from students to provide special advantages. They are confined to work honestly. Every teacher works in an equal manner. None of the educators complain or make false statements about their colleagues. 2. Actions to be taken to maintain reasonable precautions for a safe environment If the students are not provided with a safe environment, both physically and emotionally, then how come they could learn Students should be made to communicate honestly and openly. There are several things that have to be put right to create a safe environment. Firstly, consider the student's privacy. Every student should be given a private place to store his things. This should never be exposed to others as it may affect the morale of the student. Every student must be made to trust each other, and they should be stopped from lying. It creates an unsafe environment when someone doesn't trust the others. He keeps on putting a mask to his face constantly without showing his real identity. He starts bullying others. The teacher needs to emphasize on the need of proper nutrition to the students and the need to get good sleep to ensure proper health. Sufficient safety devices must be installed in the vicinity of the classroom and students should be taught to handle them in case of emergency 3. To respect the privacy of students, families and colleagues, and maintain confidentiality of information As a teacher, it is essential to provide a sense of trust among the students about oneself. This helps in a great way for students to come out with their personal problems to the teacher. They get a feel that he or she will help them out in their hard times. A student feels confident only if his privacy is assured. If the student does not have any friends, it is worse than scars and wounds. They must be made to get out of their shield and mingle well. A simple promise to the little ones, means so much to them. The teacher should not expose their student's personal feelings to everyone and should not question them on things which they don't want to talk about. If a student does an embarrassing mistake, the teacher should not complain or publicize it. Firstly, a private meeting has to be held with the student and a proper method to solve the issue has to be finalized by the teacher. 4. Modeling professional responsibilities It is necessary to follow and abide by the responsibilities of the teaching profession. A teacher should be conscious about his/her duties and take care of the students. There is a need to demonstrate highest standards of professional behavior, act in a balanced manner and to be courteous and sensitive when interacting with the students. After all these little ones take their teachers as their role models and the teachers must live up to that.
