Future Development Plan is a record of what the individual nurse needs to do in order to effectively fulfill their role. It can be set out to identify the learning and training activities which support professional as well as personal development of the nursing career (Donner, 1993). However, this would be useful to identify the limits of professional and personal knowledge and competencies in order to use appropriate techniques and strategies to meet the needs of the patients. Professional/Personal Development Plan: To create a Professional/Personal Development Plan (PDP), in the first instance nurses should consider the following questions.

What are the future goals and objectives? What are the skills I now possess? Are they current? Am I confident using those skills? What are my gaps and limitations? Therefore what are my goals? What have I done at the professional level? What did I never get round to? What do I want or need to do in the future? Secondly, prioritize particular goals and objectives with a time frame. In this stage skills needed to be wide which is covering all the areas of nursing practice such as clinical skills, communication, and consulting skills, IT skills and leadership skills (Donner, & Wheeler, 2000).

Identify learning and development needs with reference to a nursing career at the hospital level. Neediness to proficiently practice in the general healthcare delivery level. Regular updating of following areas, including basic life support skills, child protection, data protection and freedom of information, moving and handling. Thirdly PDP should get approved by the practice manager or an appraiser. In this scenario, it is better to give awareness to the healthcare practice manager about professional development needs.

Thus it will support the management to set the training and development needs as against the existing resources and employees.
