Sana Osman English 14 December 2008 Back to the Past for One Night He came home found his son asleep on his old couch, with an old torn stuffed bear, the only toy he had. It was 12am 24th of May 2010, it was Jonny's birthday, he had promised him, when he returned that day he would buy Jonny a new pair of jeans, shoes and the blue superman T-shirt that he wanted for Christmas last year. His eyes filled with tears when he saw his son asleep hungry, he was 7 today and he had nothing to wear except for the one pair of cloths his mother had given him on his 5th birthday. He thought of his wife Marilyn who died in a road accident because of a drunken driver. He thought of the days when she was alive, he said to himself "Marilyn oh my love I hope I could have been able to save you." He realized he was so helpless then and he is so helpless now. He wished just for once he had a hundred dollars so that he could celebrate his son's birthday, he really wanted to buy Jonny everything he wanted. He remembered the gift his father had given him when he turned 11. His father was sick and was dying, he said that night " Bobby, I'm going, I am going for good but here's a little something which will help you meet me again." It was an old note book that his father used to note his experiments in. Bob remembered his father had told him to keep it a secret, and not to show it even to his mother. He used to read it when he was young, but wasn't able to understand what was written in it. It read in a strange manner "As you know Bob your father that is I Robert Roberts the best, the most intelligent of human brains, the greatest scientist ever born.come my boy come to meI am hereahhh you wont understand now my son I am hereit is you who would use my invention for the betterment of yourself and your family.you can meet me my son yes you canjust remember what I had told you the night I died..." He looked for the book. He thought he would sell his father's book to the Science Research Centre for a few dollars if they found his father's experiments useful, and would buy Jonny his gifts. He thought to himself he anyways didn't understand the book and wasn't really a science person. Bob was a construction laborer and a school drop out in Brooklyn. Bob found the book in the garage, his last hope to give Jonny a good birthday. He took the book upstairs to his bedroom and cleaned the dust off it. He wanted to read the book one last time, so he started flipping the pages of the book and he suddenly saw something written on the back of the book which read "go to the attic Bobby." He had never been to the attic since his father died, all he knew was that it was his father's work place and no one was allowed to go there not even Bob's mother. He broke the lock and found a little room full of dust and weird machines, a sign on the wall read "on the table boy" he looked down on the old laboratory table and found an old envelope and a weird looking digital wrist watch which showed 1200 B.C. 2:14 pm on its display. The envelope was addressed to him, he opened it and found a letter which read "I Robert Roberts here by claim that I am the first to prove that Einstein's wormhole theory works. This machine (the wrist watch) works on wormhole theory which accelerates one end of a wormhole to a high velocity which is relative to the other, and also bringing it back and forming a connection like a tunnel between the present and the past... you wont understand just push the upper button to choose the year, the centre one to choose the time and the one on the left to travel in time just say where you want to go loud and clear, don't forget to carry the revolver that's in table's drawer for your defence." He took the gun which was a sedative injector, wore the watch and selected 12th of September 1985, 9pm, the day his father gave him the book, and pressed the left button saying "My home!" as loud as he could. He felt like he was being sucked by a vacuum cleaner and falling down from a high mountain. He screamed out of fear and within a flash of a second he was in the attic again but the attic was different there was no dust and it was much cleaner. He heard a very familiar voice of a child, he realised it was his voice yes his own voice he was shocked and scared. He goes to his fathers bedroom and sits besides his father and says "Father I am your son I have come back from 24th May 2010, to meet you, I have found it father, you have done it" His father smiles and says "I knew you would come my boy its time for you to go now you shouldn't spend more than 10 minutes here." He returns to the Jonny's birthday. Bob realises he has to make this birthday the best birthday ever, he thinks of a plan that could give Jonny the best of things he wants he plans a robbery in the in the era of the great Indian emperor Muhammad Jalaluddin Akbar in Delhi India. He sets his time machine to 8pm, 21st November 1594, and screams "Delhi India Akbar's palace" this was a long journey it lasted for a whole minute and he experienced a powerful suction and he landed and fell on the ground. He was in India in the 1500s, he was shocked, scared and he saw the most beautiful palace ever there was no electricity but the hall was glowing with the light from the diamond studded chandelier in which a lamp was placed there were beautiful craving on the marble walls, he was stunned looking at the beauty of the palace. He had to find the treasury so he followed the guards, carrying a humongous wooden box with them. He saw them take it in a huge hall. There he was, Akbar the emperor. He couldn't believe what he saw. He saw the court of Akbar, the Indian ruler himself sitting on the throne. He couldn't believe he was in the 16th century. He saw the box hiding under a table made of stone; it was full of diamonds, jewellery and gold coins. It looked like they had brought it to show it to the king. He said something to the soldiers in a language Bob couldn't understand and directed them towards a corridor; they picked up the box and started walking towards the corridor. Bob again started following them and soon there was nobody in the corridor except the two soldiers and Bob. The soldiers heard Bob's footsteps and they drew their swords and turned. Bob took his sedative gun out and shot the sedative injections on the soldiers, they fell asleep bob quickly filled his bag with the jewels and set the timer to 2nd January 2009 4 am, the day his wife died, his wife had left home at 6 am. He wanted to save her so he reached the destination and stole his wife's car to prevent her from meeting with the accident. He left his bag on the doorstep with a note which said "a gift for Bob and Marilyn. Marilyn please don't go out today for God's sake!" Then he returned to the present he saw Jonny was gone, Marilyn wasn't there too he called Marilyn on her mobile to check. She answered the phone and said "sweetheart where you we are at home its Jonny are's 7th birthday" he said "I need our postal address I've forgotten it" she said "14 Beverly Hills!" He cried, this time it was out of joy... Read More
