PERSONAL HAZARD PLAN Introduction It is not a myth that some persons are more accident prone than others. Studies show that "Mr. Walking Disaster" consistently displays certain traits. He is usually lacking a degree of emotional control-being either easily angered or frustrated or tense. Also, the accident-prone person is often ignorant of the exact details of the equipment that he is handling. Thirdly, he is careless of long-established safety rules, tending to feel that he can handle any situation or that "what will be, will be." These tendencies, coupled with errors in judging the reflex ability of his body, likely will cause "Mr. Disaster" to live up to his name. However, while just reading will not automatically force you to form new habits, knowledge of practical safety tips, if applied, could save you much pain, even your very life. Surely, you do not need to burn your fingers on the stove to establish that the stove is hot. Through the pain and suffering of thousands at the hands of that rough teacher Experience, safety rules have been established. As for the author of this paper, clumsiness may not at all be an issue, however considering that he needs to attend to several activities in different areas everyday, it could be noted that he is then not free from meeting accidents along the way. Hence, within the discussion that follows, it could be observed that personal hazard plans needs to be established to assure that the author would be well prepared in handling possible accidents that may occur. However, to be able to create a plan that would be most effective for the author's safety, it is first important to know how safety rules are created based from the historical reports pertaining to the development of the said process of safety preparation. Points of Natural Hazards (a) Miramar college (address is: 10440 Black Mountain Rd, San Diego, CA 92126) Possible dangers: since it is a university, it is expected to be established with high buildings with either stairs or elevators as means of manual or automatic transport around the area. For this reason, it is necessary that the author be able to understand how to deal with certain natural occurrences such as earthquakes. Safety Measures to Consider: It is advised that when in school, there is a need to keep safe at all times. When a slight shock of earthquake happens, it is important to take immediate cover. Follow the different escape areas, to do so, knowing the map of the building for the different exists around the area is indeed essential. (b) Second is Qualcomm Stadium- Chargers Stadium (address is: 9449 Friars Rd, San Diego, CA 92108). Possible dangers: Since the area is a wide-open space, only huge natural hazards could be expected to happen, such as storm and earthquake. With these occurrences happening in the middle of highly populated occasion, it is important for one to be ready for an exit from the area. Safety Measures to Consider: When in a crowded area, be sure to situated in a location where it is easy to exit from the place in case of any emergency situations occurring. It could be noted that through this approach to the situation, one could assure himself that he would be able to get out at once and avoid any possible stampede just incase emergencies happen during an event. (c) home( address is: 3939 Georgia Street, San Diego, CA 92103). Possible dangers: Even though the home seems to be the safest place for everyone. However, even though this is the case it is still important to handle safety effectively even within one's own house. Safety Measures to Consider: The house itself should be safe from falling out with simple shocks of low-end earthquakes. It should also be prepared for possible thunderstorms. Exit points should always be ready when emergencies occur. (d) work(address is: 7170 Miramar Rd, San Diego, CA 92121). Possible dangers: At work, technical and natural dangers should be well expected and prepared for. It is through this that one is protected from the possible occurrences that would break in high emergency cases at work. Safety Measures to Consider: 1. Take work seriously. Lack of attention, horseplay, the taking of chances, and the running of risks for thrills could cost the life of the worker. 2. Strictly obey safety rules and make use of all personal protective equipment recommended for the job. Do not think that using it is unnecessary or ridiculous. 3. Train one's self in the six steps of safe weight lifting: (a) Keep feet apart-one alongside, one behind the object. (b) Keep back straight, almost vertical. (c) Tuck chin in. (d) Grip the object with both hands. (e) Tuck elbows and arms in. (f) Keep the body directly over the feet, using the leg muscles to do the lifting. 4. Whenever one has to work in an isolated place, offering potential safety hazards, make sure that that he is accompanied by others or are within shouting distance of them. 5. Recognize hazards ahead of time by being observant, alert and familiar with safety standards and with the properties of the materials that you have to handle. 6. Any equipment of critical importance to the safe performance of your job should be checked each time that it is to be used. Never presume anything. Machines are governed by natural laws, not by intelligent reasoning. 7. Avoid riding devices designed to lift or transport only cargo. 8. Make a habit of good housekeeping: Clean up any spills immediately. Keep tools in their proper place. Also, all solvent-soaked rags should be disposed of in airtight metal receptacles. 9. Cleaning, repairing, adjusting and most lubricating of machines should be done with all power sources and valves shut off. Only authorized workers should have access to power sources. 10. Guards on the machine are for your protection; therefore, never leave them off while operating. Always keep in mind that loose clothing or long hair can very easily get caught in machines. (e) Friend's place( address is:2006 Diamond Street, San Diego, CA 92109). Possible dangers: Like when at home, it is important that one familiarizes himself in a friend's house that he naturally goes to regularly. By doing so, he would not only be able to make sure that he is safe in the area but would also be able to protect others living in the place. Safety Measures to Consider: It is always too important to consider exit points of any area. In this case, a friend's house should not be an exception to the rule. Instead, knowing the area wisely shall give the chance for one to know where to go in case disasters such as earthquakes or even tornadoes occur. Basements and exit areas should be well known so as to be able to get immediately far from the emergency area. (f) Recreation place(address is: 921 6th St, Coronado, CA 92118). Possible dangers: Safe fun from travel until the recreation proper should always be observed considerably by the visitors when going out for recreation schedules. The possible dangers to consider herein then include road accidents. Safety Measures to Consider: Recreation periods are supposed to bring enjoyment, but too often they are spoiled by an accident. The share that traffic accidents have in this is alarming. More people are said to be killed and injured yearly on the roads than in wars. Specialists feel, though, that 85 to 90 percent of all traffic and transportation-related accidents could be avoided. Human failure is the chief cause. To illustrate: Recently, restrictions on speed limits, caused by the world's energy crisis, resulted in a lower rate of fatal accidents on highways. That is why some basic traffic rules are included among these safety suggestions. 1. Do not "relax" while driving just because you are on vacation or because the highway is "empty." 2. Always keep your car in safe condition. Periodically check tires, brakes, doors and other vital parts. Neglect could make you an unintentional manslayer. 3. Be familiar with basic first-aid procedures and make it a point to carry a first-aid kit in your car; also a fire extinguisher. 4. Strictly heed all traffic regulations and warnings provided for your safety. There are good reasons for their existence. 5. Even if you know how to swim, ski or ride a bicycle, never take unnecessary chances. 6. Be careful whenever near animals, domestic or wild. 7. Keep away from disturbances or mobs. (g) party place( this is a downtown area in San Diego- blocks between A st. and J st. and between 6th ave. and 3rd ave). Possible dangers: Crowd population control [self-safety awaereness] Safety Measures to Consider: When in a party place, it is important to keep away from possible areas of crowd mob. To be able to do this, it is essential to know the exit points of the area. It is also important to keep track on the activities happening every now and then to be assured that there is no possible emergency mobbing that would occur that may cause stampede or other accidents as such. (h) restaurant (for this purpose it's going to be Phil's BBQ. Address is: 3750 Sports Arena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110). Possible dangers: Being situated in a populated area, it is important to always be prepared for the major disasters that could be expected in the area. This could include events during thunderstorms and such. Safety Measures to Consider: If the area is near trees and other high establishments, it is important to keep safe away from these areas during specific disasters. Allotting safe areas within the restaurants need to established as well as making considerable exit points that would be easily accessible during emergencies is also important to consider. (i) Pacific Beach in San Diego, CA 92109. Possible dangers: Tsunamis [although during the past five years, none were recorded so far]; possible SQUAL situations Safety Measures to Consider: When planning to go to the beach, it is important to consider the weather first. It is essential to know that whatever the weather for the day is certainly would have a direct effect on the calmness of the sea. When there is an impending thunderstorm, even though it may seem sunny outside, it is rather safer to stay away from the beach. Conclusion From the points of consideration considered herein, following through the steps sited shall indeed give the author a chance to enjoy what he does in safety and keep a close track on the protection that he gives to the properties that belong to him. It is only through this that a person becomes more and more aware as well as more knowledgeable about the responsibility he has upon himself and towards those that belongs to him.
