New Labour has been successful in some crucial aspects even though it exhibited utter failure some other major issues. However, there are various actions and policies followed by the party that does not have good content or goal towards the development of the nation. In The Labour Party: Continuity and Change in the Making of New Labour, the author Steven Fielding insisted on the indispensability and importance of a historically informed method of study of the labor politics in Britain. Labor governments are severely criticized by social democrats and the public for their inefficiency in tackling relative poverty.

Fielding completely discarded judgment on such a small matter and asserts that we recognize the electoral as well as economic constraints, under which the Labor governments have survived and more basically that we discard the mistake of assuming that they ever attempted to build socialism rather than vigilantly improving social democracy. In the conclusion of the book, Fielding is engaged in restating his argument that “we stop referring to old and new, and just talk about Labor again. In this, he is likely to be disappointed.

But earlier Fielding expresses the expectation that even if a historically informed perspective cannot reveal ‘unalloyed truth’, it ‘can at least promote a more judicious appreciation of how “New” Labor is understood’ ((Steven Fielding, 2003, p. 37).New Labour by Stephen Driver and Luke Martell also analyses New Labor on a different view. The book is supposed to be the most important textbook for the students who want to learn about Tony Blairs Labour party.

The book has properly analyzed the economy of the state, the general welfare of the state, and the public service reform. The book also includes an overview of foreign as well as European policy (explaining the military action in Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Iraq).
