This report will look on (present) various benefits of moving to a single operating system, specifically Windows XP professional. In the first section of the report, outline of Windows XP will be discussed. This will cover basic system requirement for Windows XP Professional and the various differences between Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Editions. In the next (two) section, Windows security features covering default security in Windows XP and securing options available for securing files will be covered.

In the third section, application of windows security covering common security risks and threats on Windows and good practices for securing network from security risks and threats will be covered. The last (four) section of the report, Installation plan and guide will include standard new installation of Windows XP Professional for novice users and troubleshooting steps for basic problems during the installation. Windows XP Home Edition: Windows XP Home Edition is budget-priced version sold for use in homes and very small businesses.

It is made for non-technical users who do not need to connect corporate networks and want to have complicated system and security options. It is compatible only with single CPU and a single video display. Windows XP Professional: This is the most popular version among professional and includes everything in Home Edition along with all the networking and security components required to join a Windows domain run by Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003. It is compatible with high-performance hardware having dual-processor motherboard.

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005: It is recent addition to Windows XP family and includes all of the features and capabilities of Windows XP Professional. It sold only with notebook computers that are equipped with custom screens that can recognize input from a digital pen. Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004: This is another variant of Windows XP
