A Meaningful Experience in the Life - Admission/Application Essay Example

My experience with an old woman changed my perspective and this was a meaningful experience. This old lady was exhausted and she requested my assistance in calling the hotel. Having completed her request, she thanked me and requested me to wait until the cab arrived. My willingness to respect her wish opened the door between me and the old lady.

My comradeship enabled her to remiss her last 25 years and soon found myself beside her I was walking down memory lane. The week her husband deserted her, her cancer returned. I soon understood her pain and loneliness. This loneliness is the feeling of being deserted combined with her battle with cancer. I allowed her to speak for it is said that old people long for companionship.

Loneliness is characterized by emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is epitomized by a feeling of uselessness and rejection. Two hours found my time spent with a jewel for she revivified the essence of my existence. One day I would be like her and hoped that someone like me would lend me an ear.

Her tears dried up and her lips started to turn up. The cab arrived and while departing she turned to bid goodbye. Was it only goodbye-no she turned to say “Earlier I felt so alone and helpless but now I feel just fine. Thank you for staying with me and showing me the fire that your generation has”.

I had the opportunity of reaching out to her-perhaps what she longed for. “Thank you for showing me the fire that your generation has” powerful words that made me feel like a crowned queen of the world. For me, I felt I had experienced an epiphany and my promise that I would spend my time and effort in making the best of the future.

What perplexed me was meeting with an old person had stirred such an exorbitant change. There are two ways in analyzing this- assisting the old lady and listening to her and bid goodbye or through this conversation I have facilitated change thus enabling me to become a better person.

I am trying to prove that I will be an excellent contribution to the UF campus community. I will bring change to the university with my perseverance and unconditional service to others.

My hard work and diligence for UF will find me striving to my full potential. The old lady showed me the real world wherein I will strive to always do my best. In life’s ocean, I will strive for greatness-greatness for UF.
