Communication in the 21st Century Abstract Communication is considered as one of the factors that are rapidly changing in the society. Through the continuous evolution and transformation it can, communication can be a very influential dynamic that is considered in the determination of the future of the different aspects of the human existence. The study undertaken is focused on the role of communication in the corporate world specifically in the 21st century. Through the results gathered regarding the different trends in corporate systems, it has been concluded that the main role of corporate communication is to achieve synergy and integration for optimum application of the different innovations and technologies. Introduction Communication is one fundamental process in human’s existence. Due to the fact that the economic and corporate environment is one of the important components of the present society, the interest regarding the process referred to as corporate communication is also an immediate concert and interest. The main objective of the study undertaken is to be able to present the issues that are related to corporate communication specifically in the 21st century. The importance of the said study can be considered based on the role of communication in different aspects of the corporate world. As in human interaction, it is also important for the different processes in the operation of organizations and participants in the corporate world. In addition, it is considered as one of the most significant resource that can be viewed as an input for the success and profitability of a company (Kitchen and Schultz 1). The objectives of the study are achieved through the determination of the different ways and methods that corporate communication is defined due to the fact that communication can vary through the transition of history. In addition, the elements and factors that are related to corporate communication are also defined. The different elements include the innovations and the effects that are associated upon the application of the said innovative technologies and methods to the conventional system. The main focus of the study when the baseline data had been describe specifically related to the definition and issues related to communication in the corporate and business arena is the main innovation that occurs in the age of the prowess of technological development on different fields, the 21st century. The Evolution of the Corporate and Business Communication The importance of communication in the corporate and business context can be described on the basis of the importance given by the society with respect to the different methods and technology to be applied in the said field. Based on the study undertaken, the determination of the past, the present and the future of corporate communication is an important element to be able to recognize the trends in both the society and the economy. The past can be considered important on the basis of the establishment of the field that is related and devoted to the study of the different issues explored and related to business communication. Upon the foundation of the school of thought, the importance of business communication can be confirmed (Du-Babcock 253). The present then can be defined as an era of evolution and journey wherein the discovery and development of different innovations, both in terms of technological advancement and methods to answer different corporate needs are developed. In the said process, from private and localized application of the discovered innovations, the main target of the majority, that can also be considered as a trend is the growth towards globalization and multidisciplinary application. The evolution of corporate communication, then, is ultimately focused on the application in the future. The future of business communication then can be considered to be achieved through the process of achieving optimum improvement and mastery in relation to the technologies that had been developed in the present era in relation to the corporate methods and technologies (Du-Babcock 253). The early period of business communication can be described through the different event and scenarios that can be compared to the present state of the said field. The establishment of the business communication can be based on the recognition of the importance of the said field as a tool to be applied and utilized in the future transactions of the people that are related to the business world. For that matter, the main importance of the business communication in the past is the establishment of the field through the academic development of the jargon that can be considered and even required to be used in the said aspect. The said manner of communication is required to be utilized in business transactions and even the records of data related to the corporate organizational systems and operations. Even the process of communication is undertaken through the guidance of paradigms and principles that are also established (Du-Babcock 254). The present era in business communication can be considered as the stage of rapid development. This can be related to the present trends that are occurring in the 21st century wherein the determination of the application of the different technologies are established and applied, along with governing rules to be able to achieve the optimum state of application in the corporate world. Due to the continuous trend for a single international community and globalization, the adaptation of the said corporate communication innovations is viewed on the basis of the needs of the global and multidisciplinary corporate arena. The said process can be perceived in different practical applications such as the need to communicate and translate the transactions in different languages as week as professional jargon or mode of communication for fields wherein services and profitability is viewed. The factors that can summarize the said needs of corporate communication are linguistics, cultural differences and competencies (Du-Babcock 255-256). The development towards the future can be related to the improvement of the discipline related to corporate communication, both in the academe and the practical application in the field. There are two elements in the said stage. One is the determination and confirmation that the methods and technologies can allow for integration in the field. This is to specifically ensure that the field of business communication can be benefited. These include the organizational systems, the field of management and the media who are always related to the different process incorporated in the issue under study (Du-Babcock 260). The stages presented can be considered as the way through which the field of corporate communication can be analyzed. It can be considered that the past period is the time wherein different technologies are replaced. Through the said process, the improvement in the present state of corporate communication can be achieved. Such optimization of the technologies then is brought to the future. Based on the determination of the different stage then, it can be considered that the development of the corporate communication in the 21st century can be considered as the present stage in the contemporary era the established paradigms in the past are then applied and utilized for the development of the subsequent phase. Another point that can be presented is that the any period that is analyzed can be assumed as the present era, enabling the optimum determination and analysis of the factors that are involved. Trends Related To Corporate Communication In the 21st century, there are different trends that can be recognized in relation to the field of corporate communication. The said trends have been recognized on the basis of the different factors related to the labor force, the corporate process, and the different issues that are related to the economy. The different business trends in technological prowess that are presented that are viewed to have influential effects to the process of communication in the corporate and business world. One of the most significant trends is related to the different innovations that are referred to as the “Power Tools” and the analysis of their effects. These include the computer systems, the networks, the innovations related to biotechnology and the nanotechnology. The main function in the corporate world is the process of utilizing the said greatest innovations in the century to be able to achieve optimization of operation, manufacturing, profitability and market share (Canton 6). One of the most important innovations that can be viewed is the application of the computer technology and the unique language in different fields, specifically the applications that can be related to the corporate systems. One of the examples that can be presented is the application of the said technology in corporate reporting. As one of the foundation of business and corporate operations, the digitalization of the said ways of networking and operation can be considered as one of the recognized tools in the present generation on the basis of benefits that can be attributed such as improved efficiency both in resources and time. The past technology applied in certain companies is partly digitized in nature. For that matter, there are problems in terms of data that are not reported. The development in the 21st century was able to achieve “smart data” system wherein the integrity of the data based on the stakeholders can be retrieved. The said example of a computer language referred to as the XBRL, Extensible Business Reporting Language (PricewaterhouseCoopers 7-9). Another trend in relation to corporate communication in the 21st century is the focus on the improvement and development of the customer service. This can be defined on the basis the satisfaction of the customers on the services offered and the products produced. This can be related to the ultimate achievement of the competitive advantage (Canton 6). In addition to the technological application of the computer is the application of the power of the internet. The said technology was able to tap and improve the different aspects of corporate system. This is not only limited to the corporate communication but also in terms of delivery of services, distribution and marketing. Through the application of technology in the corporate and business arena, a new facet of transaction had been born which is referred to as the E-business which occurs in Real-Time (Canton 6). The conception of a Real-Time system is also another important innovation in the 21st century corporate world. This technology enables the transactions and communications to occur in a more efficient way by overcoming the geographical gap that can affect the delivery of products and services (Canton 6). The realization leading to the convergence of the different tools of communication such as media, internet, computer and wireless technology is another important trend in the corporate communication system. The said system is one of the most fundamental tools applied not only in the corporate field but also in other aspects of the society and fields of discipline. Through the action of the said systems, a limitless capability to communicate and thus to do business had been born (Canton 6). Another important innovation in the 21st century is the continuous polishing and organization of different fields of study. For that matter, through research and development, the past conventional principles and the present innovations will continuous bring the corporate world to the future. Through the study and research of the different scenarios in the business and corporate systems, the different problems are also given attention. One of the examples of the said factors is related to the labor force. The labor force is one of the most important and highly volatile factors in the corporate system. This can be attributed to the fact that people can also be affected by the changes in the systems being implemented in relation to different innovations. The innovations are part of the improvement of the corporate systems thus the labor force are also needed to be subjected to the said processes of change. One example in relation to communication is the improvement in the capacity to have a multilingual background and customer service skills to help the system improve towards the goals of global competitiveness and survival through the future (Du-Babcock 256). To summarize the roles of communication in the corporate arena specifically in the interactive age, the inclusion of different factors are considered. These factors that are undertaken through integrated communication are based on corporate brand perspective, brand identities, corporate brand value, corporate communication (specifically with the stakeholders), corporate image and corporate identity (Kitchen and Schultz 95-110). Conclusions Based on the study undertaken which focused on the corporate communication in the 21st century, it can be considered that a number of factors working in and integration and synergy are essential to achieve the optimization and achievement of the goals of corporate systems. The trends in corporate communication are related to the different innovations such as the computer, the internet and the different technologies in communication. These innovations then are used as tools to answer the needs of the people in terms services and products. Communication in the corporate and business systems then can be analyzed as the factor that makes these innovations work in integration to achieve improvement in the corporate produce. Recommendation In terms of research and development related to the issue, the continuous focus on the application of the different innovations is important to be able to determine the paradigms and principles that will be continuously applicable for the future phase of corporate systems and communication.
