Companies are looking to leverage IT infrastructure based solutions as they are value-adding components to a business and have proven their success in the market. Companies acknowledge that they have succeeded in cutting down costs, enhance productivity and devise quick and adaptable strategies to the constantly evolving market condition by establishing dependable IT infrastructures (Mauricio Arregoces & Maurizio Portolani, 2003). As such, it remains to be examined whether having such an IT infrastructure is the need of the future especially as part of continued efforts to weather the economic downturn.

As companies have begun to depend extensively on their IT-infrastructure and with newer and efficient IT solutions emerging with each passing day, a key question arises that if IT was one of the foundations of an organization, then what would constitute an ideal data center over the next 5-10 years with a view to the increasing demands from the industry and the market. The pace and sequence of the expected evolution to such a data infrastructure also generates an interest apart from raising several questions regarding the optimal specifics of such systems.

Organizations have transformed rapidly over the past 5 decades. From using paper and telephones for conducting daily business operations, the industry regardless of the sector of operation has moved forward to relying on storing data electronically and conducts business transactions electronically (Allan F. Froehlich, 1982). The introduction of the Internet into our lives has sparked a new information age that has prompted enterprises to lay extraordinary emphasis on the quality, safety and usability of data apart from other production and service oriented responsibilities (Jonathan Harker, 1992).
