My Inspirational Designers Jonathan Paul Ive is a distinguished personality serving the Apple computers in the role of vice president, industrial design. He is casually called Jony Ive. Sometimes he is mistakenly referred as Jonathan Ives. He is British by birth. He was born in London in 1967 and grew up in Essex. He did his schooling in southern England and studied art and design in the north particularly at the renowned institute named Newcastle Polytechnic. This was in 1985. He graduated with first class. In 1990, he moved to London and co founded the design studio named Tangerine along with Martin Darbyshire. During these days he commercialized his skills by creating different types of products like combs, power tools, televisions, ceramics etc. he designed modern toilets for companies under influence from marine biology books. Jonathan was fascinated with the activity of constructing objects as well as taking them apart right from his childhood. He is remembered for his products that he has created at Apple computers particularly the I-pod and the I-phone. Now he is based in California and pursues the art and activity of making very interesting electronic models. Frustrated with working as an external consultant, in 1992, he moved to California to join Apple computers. He joined the design team as a full time member. During his entry into Apple, the company was in a low profile. Steve Jobs was out and there was a legal battle going on over patent rights with Windows. Apple was fast losing its ground to Windows and also was unprofitable. In the year 1997, Steve Jobs returned and Jonathan was appointed senior vice president, design of Apple. Under the new job, he began a period characterized with unrivalled creativity as well as innovations. The company launched the iMac G3 under the influence of Jonathan. This launch is widely regarded as the rebirth of Apple. From this model onwards nothing could stop both Jonathan and Apple in launching new and improved products in the market with great effect. They launched the iBook as well as the power book within a short span of time. The various designs of Jonathan always bring refreshing plainness as well as stylishness. Many of Jonathan’s products are simple in nature and are influenced by natural objects. For example, the iMac G4 was influenced by the sun flower. The Pro mouse was inspired by droplet of water. He reduces the use of plastics in his products and uses more eco friendly metals. He is a modest and shy person who is reluctant to come into the limelight. On his work, Jonathan has a wild passion. He is very modest on his achievements and likes to talk about the technicalities and specifics of his designs (Jonathan Ive). Jonathan has designed world class innovative products like Cube, iPod, Powerbook G4, 17 inch laptop, iMac G5, etc. He won the first designer price instituted by the Designer Museum in the year 2002 for the development of trendy products like iMac and iPod (Design Museum). Some products designed by Jonathan for Apple iMac, 1998 G4 Cube, 2000 iPod, 2001 iMac, 2002 (Design Museum). Sir James Dyson, born in 1947 is a British engineer who became famous after his invention titled the dual cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner. This vacuum cleaner works on the principle of cyclonic separation. He also invented the Ballbarrow.Dyson studied furniture design at the royal college of art during the period 1966 to 1970. After that he moved on to study engineering. The first ever product designed and produced by Dyson was the sea truck, which was launched in 1970. He made this product while he was studying at the Royal College of art. Later he invented the ball barrow which is another version of the wheel barrow. He also launched the trolley ball which was used to launch boats and the wheel boat which could travel at both sea and water at high speeds.   The bagless vacuum cleaner developed by Dyson was based on the idea of cyclonic separation method. This product was developed by Dyson and launched in the year 1983. It was named as G-Force. He first sold the product in Japan for a price equal to 2000 pounds. He got patent in the US for this product in the year 1986.   After development of his product designs, Dyson found it difficult to sell his concept to other manufacturers. This prompted him to start his own manufacturing company. Now his company outsells many of the companies that once rejected his idea. His brands became one of the most popular brands of UK. Success was achieved through effective advertisement campaigns as well as quality innovative product launches. In order to save costs, Dyson transferred his manufacturing unit to Malaysia.   In the year 2002 Dyson developed the idea of illusions which was to be introduced on ramps. This concept was based on the lithographic work of the Dutch artist M.C.Escher. Dyson along with engineer Dereck Phillips completed the task within a year. A water sculpture was created. Water appears to flow to the tops of the ramps that are arranged in a square pattern and then cascading to the bottom of the next ramp. This was achieved by pumping water with air bubbles through an underneath chamber (JAMES DYSON). Cyclonic separation diagram (JAMES DYSON). Dyson attended school in Norfolk. He was a long distance runner during his school days. After the school he went to St Martins college. He is regarded as Britains best known engineers having a fortune more than 1 billion pounds. In 1968 he got married to Deirdre Hindmarsh, with whom he has three children. In the year 2003, Dyson introduced the ContraRotator washing machine. In the year 2006, Dyson introduced a hand dryer which is quick and clean (Cave. 2008.). Sir James Dysons vaccum cleaner.   (Cave,A.2008)  Jonathan Ive is still not a house hold name around the world. But he is regarded one among the most influential designers the world has ever produced. This is evident form the reports given by the competetors of Apple computers. Moreover he is likely to succeed Steve Jobs as the next CEO of the company. He has designed a wide variety of products that are quite innovative as well as have wide uses and utilities. He is the role model of each and every student designers. His innovative spirit as well as creativity and attitude to pursue his dreams are really motivational factors. Critics regard Ives work as being among the best in industrial design, and his teams products have repeatedly won awards such as the Industrial Designers Society of Americas Industrial Design Excellence Award.Ive was the winner of the Design Museums inaugural Designer of the Year award in 2002, and won again in 2003. In 2004, he was a juror for the award. Ive is known to be unselfish in how he is attributed; in interviews, for example, he always gives importance to the teamwork that goes into the products for which he receives recognition and fame. The unselfish nature and organising teamworks are the real techniques behind his success. The Sunday Times named Ive as one of Britains most influential expatriates in 2005: The man who designed the iPod , iMac, The cube and many more of Apples most iconic products has shaken up both the music and the electronics by storm. Sir James Dyson who is the father of the bagless vaccum cleaner is considered as a non tiring inventionist who is never afraid of failures. The life story filled with challenges of Sir Dyson itself is a remarkable experience for young designers and entrepreneurs who wish to pursue a career in designer entreperneurship. He is a perfectionist in his own making who through his remarkable hard work amd insight captured the market in style. He once remarked that anger is a truly motivational force behind his inventions. This statement clearly suggests that Sir Dyson was a hardworking man driven by objectives.Right from the launch of his first product in 1970, he always strived for perfection, quality and utility in his inventions. He can be regarded as an engineer with little entrepreneur aspirations. . He always linked failure with creativity. For each and every designers who pass form an institute, these attitudes of Dyson should act like mantras of success. Every designer should give more preference to creativity like Sir Dyson. His attitude towards hard work as well as his non tiring ability and openness towards challenges should be a highlight in every young designers life. Sir James Dyson had mixed success plunging his ideas for a bagless vacuum cleaner to possible monetary supporters in the 1980s before introducing it in the UK in 1992. The design engineer funded the roll-out by making the rights to exploit the technology in Japan, relatively than getting financial support from a business enterprise capitalist .The approach meant he had to make more sacrifices early on, he says. It also forced him to be more inventive in his approach to his clientele and dealers. Reference: Cave,A.2008. Sir James Dyson the inventor keeps on motoring.
