Reasons for Choosing Christie's Education - Personal Statement Example

Ever since I was a child, I can recall my passion being ignited by art.  As I grew older and with the benefit of education I came to realize that the world of art has always been my passion. My family life has always been surrounded by a variety of arts including music and ballet.  I am fortunate enough to have enjoyed a great deal of traveling and as a result has gained intimate knowledge of the artistic values and nuances of each country I have visited.  This includes but is not limited to visiting museums, galleries, auction houses, and out-of-the-way venues that local patrons guide me to. I view art as the source of beauty in my own life. 

Art for me is not a mere vision.  It is not a gratuitous answer to an invitation.  Rather, it is a feeling or a reaction.  It is personal and can only be shared with those that have the same keen understanding of it that I do.  It is the ability to embrace someone else’s interpretation and yet knows that you feel at peace only with your own. It comes in so many different forms.  For example, I enjoy all types of dance, from traditional to folk to ritualistic expression.  What elevates my ability to view and interpret art is that I do not need to find the artistic expression in whatever it is I am viewing, it shows itself to me.  It is like a beacon in the night guiding me and I am compelled to respond.

Indeed, I find myself employing art as my special form of communication.  Art plays a large role in the expression of my inner thoughts and in acknowledging the beauty in my life. From dance to music to abstract art our concept of life is shown through the various ways in which we interpret it. Art has always allowed me to be as specific or as abstract as I wish. I also employ art as my own form of communication.  I may not be able to express to a loved one verbally how I feel at the moment, but I do so through expressions of art.  I don’t know why this is so, all I know is that art is my comfort zone. Art has taught me how to communicate through creative expression. It has taught me how to understand human experience including the past and present.

As for my own personal interests, music, opera singing, dancing, poetry, and sketching are just a few of the different forms of art that I personally employ to express myself and apply my talents in a way that I enjoy.  It is these talents that allow me to feel the most comfortable expressing myself and I think that it is these talents that I bring to the table in seeking my degree.  I am choosing Christie's Education because I would seek to gain knowledge of art history, connoisseurship, and the art market. As far as I am concerned, I am a hard-working individual who will bring a fresh interpretation to your institution while quenching a thirst that only Christie’s can quench.  I can assure you that I will endeavor to consistently push the limits of knowledge and interpretation while remaining open to instruction and guidance.

It is for these exact reasons, I believe that when you and the other admissions administrators review this essay and my application. When reading my resume you will I pray, see that I have had many impressive and worthwhile experiences in many areas. However, one thing is constant and it has proven to be my main quality over the years: my true commitment to the development of the business I am part of. Whether bank manager, sales manager, head of representatives office, agrochemical company, or director for development in the gallery of my family, my goal has always been to produce the best possible work to contribute to the growth of the business and I submit that my ability to adapt has always been my competitive advantage when facing so many different environments.

I am currently working as head of a representative office of an agrochemical company and I am also helping my family business in an art gallery in Russia. I work with Russian paintings, I organize different exhibitions of modern Russian artists, photography, art objects, and antiques. Our gallery provides professional service in the area of our specialization of acquisition and sales fine arts and object antiques of museum values.

I have based my education BBA-finance and business, MBA-marketing, management, and also musical education. I had a jewelry business in Los Angeles for 2 years. Personally, I collect fine art from Russian European paintings and antique objects. My private collection consists of about 15 Russian and European paintings. I often visit auctions in London, Brussels, Vena, France, Russia, and different antique shows and galleries. The last expedition I visited was in Russia in Moscow. It was the private collection of Francais Pinault. It was very impressive for me. I am waiting for the opening of the center of modern art in Italy of Francais Pinault.

I would plan to start my career in the art world. Christie's education and my huge desire can give me a big opportunity to become a professional in the art world. I would like to meet professionals during my education, start to develop practical and analytical skills in the art world.
