Not all of our friends are the same, with the same relationships. In life, we come across many types of people. Some will hate us, while others will adore us, The people who hate us are called our enemies. And the people who love us are called as friends. From my childhood, my mother taught me to recognise and appreciate various types of friends. I classify them on the basis of how I well know them and how well they know me. Friends can be divided into three categories: formal, informal and best friends, or close friends. Each of these kinds of friends has a different aspect and meaning for our lives. There are many traits that a best friend has, for example, which are not the same as a formal friend. These types of friends also differ in numbers: a person might have only a few close friends, and at the same time, they will likely have any number of informal friends from day to day. Friends are important, and we would not be able to get by in life without them. But we have to know which category our friend fits into, as a process of reflecting on relationships. Informal friends are persons whom we accidentally meet: maybe while traveling, in school, or on official duty. They are the type of friend who we can feel free to say hello and with whom we may have a chat. We may not have much information about them, like their whereabouts, job or family. Such friends may not have much influence in our life. We deal with them casually. They are more like acquaintances than friends. This type of friend will not have much of an impact on your life. You do not miss them when they are away from you. You generally do not object to their company, and would like to have a cup of tea or coffee with them. But if you are in the midst of some work, you do not mind parting with their company. One may know this type of friend throughout their school career, but they might never talk to each other outside their school. This type of friend comes and goes, and many people have many informal friends throughout their life, even numbering into the hundreds. Informal friends are nice to talk to, but you never intend to have anything more in your relationship with them. They are casual friends and there is no deep relationship that is planned. You just talk with them and then go on your merry way. You talk with them about common topics like hobbies or classes. But you can not talk with them about yours or their personal life and their personal information. It is more of a casual friendship. There is not a lot of one person totally depending on another person with this friendship. From my experience in life, I think that this is the most common kind of friendship. Most people like to have a group of informal friends, and then just a few closer friends and formal friends. At times, an informal friend may become a closer friend, and change status. A formal friend may be someone who grew up with you in your neighborhood and then moved away. These are the friends with whom you spend much of your childhood. These friends form a major part of your enjoyment during the childhood days. You would love their company any time. These friends will bring memories about your childhood days. You might get embarrassed on first seeing these friends. But as the conversation starts between you, you s will want to spend more time with them. You always have time for these types of friends, and they are closer to you than the informal friends. You have a common history together with this type of friend, based on childhood experience. The relationship between you and your formal friend is something bigger and more meaningful than just having a coffee together, since you know each other from a long time ago, and your family and their family know each other. Therefore, the relationship is closer than having a discussion about some general topic. You know about each other in your family situations, and can talk about these issues freely. But you don’t like to share private or sensitive details about yourself with them, since they were not with you all the time when you got older and older. You may also discuss with them about their bad habits and also the things about them which irritates you. This is something that you might not feel free to do with an informal friend. With a formal friend, you will have a lot of information about them like their likes, dislikes, habits. You may also not mind spending your holidays with them. Sometimes with this kind of friend, there is more of an influence of your family. Your family thinks that you are actually closer friends with this person, than actually. A formal friend, however, is not a friend on the same level as your family. Your best friend or closest friend is a person who is just like a family member to you. These are the friends who will have the same tastes or preferences or habits as you. They are as important to you as your family members. You always try to be in touch with them, even when you are not near them. They have a very close bond or relationship with you. And you find yourself incomplete once you are away from them, just the same as your family. You can understand them and their feelings very easily and at the same time they also understand you and your feelings easily. They will be with you in all your good days and bad days. They will assist you in all your matters just like your family members, without even waiting for a formal invitation. Your best friend will consider your problems as their own and will try to solve it in whatever way possible. Such close or best friends may not be many in numbers, but they will be very valuable to you. This is the most valuable friendship in my opinion, because with a best friend, you have an ally in this life. A relationship with a best friend is often very complicated, but it is also very rewarding. Everybody will have at least one best friend. In some cases the number may go up to three or five, making a close group of best friends who share together. We will share all our personal and family matters with them, and it is always a relief for us to speak freely to somebody about our problems. A best friend not only makes suggestions for our problems, but he will try to implement the solution as well. For example, if you are in need of some money, a best friend will never ask you to contact somebody else if he has the money to spare. A best friend will always be willing to do extra work in order to help and support you. Some people like to have only a few best friends, and other people prefer to have very many informal friends. It is a matter of preference. For me, I prefer to have a closer relationship. To tell you a personal story, since I I just moved from Dubai to the U.S to finish my bachelor’s degree, I just came alone with no family no friends. All of them were away from me. But one of my cousins was here before me, and he has been here for 6 years or so. He is 6 years older than me when I just came here to the U.S. He was same as my cousin, and the same as an informal friend, but right now, he is one of my best friends. Since I just came here by myself and no one was with me at that time, I really felt how a friend is important in my life. What I am trying to say is, with some people, you dont know them that well, since you havent been with them a long time, but when you live with them, you will see how essential are they in your life. Friends are important to everyone equally. We were not made to go on this earth alone, but to help each other out in many ways. Friendship is one way that we can help each other out on our journey. Friendship is a relationship based on mutual co-operation, affection and love. There are various types of friends which we categorize on the basis of their relationship with us. We can classify these friends into formal, informal and best or close friends. While the formal and informal friends are not much closer to us and will not have much effect on our life, the best friends will form an integral part of our life, and we will find ourselves incomplete without them. Formal friends are friends who we are close in terms of our family relationships, but we don’t share everything with them, and we don’t depend on them for everything. We can be close enough to tease them and know about them personally, unlike with informal friends. Best friends are more rare: they are like a true family relationship of protection and special care. Informal friends are perhaps the most common kinds of friends, but they are also the least meaningful in terms of the conversations we can have with them. In this life, we can learn many lessons from our friends. We are not meant to be alone. Read More
