What newspapers, magazines, and/or websites do you enjoy I enjoy going through Gulf Daily News, Match, youtube.com, facebook.com, “Okapi” (French) and some Arabic titles to check out the local scenes. I am interested to get daily updates related to what’s happening in the world, what my friends and companions are doing and what new music videos are available on internet due to which, the access the resources mentioned above. 3. What is the most significant challenge that society faces today Since the world has turned into a global community during these past decades, the issues of peaceful co-existence, race and religious understanding are vital challenges to the global society. However, the most challenging issue among these according to my perception is peaceful co-existence. Today, all of us require a world that is nonviolent for its residents. We have progressed to a higher degree and are moving towards further advancements and developments but we should not negate the aspect of universal peace as we are able to sustain in this world only if we live serenely. 4. How did you spend your last two summers? In the year before last, I went to UCLA People to People Leaders camp followed by three weeks summer camp in Lugano, Switzerland than off to one week vacation with my parents in Prague. Last year, I spend three weeks in attending Harvard summer Mid IB courses, followed by 12 days Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington and New York and then to school as it was an early start. 5. What were your favorite events (e.g. performances, exhibits, sporting events etc...) this past year? The events that were interesting for me last year were The Aston-Villa Man United match, The Wimbledon Tournament and Concert of Fairuz Conert. I watched The Aston-Villa Man United match live; 2 minutes of extra time changed the fate of the teams, from losing to winning, and from guaranteed victory to loss. The Wimbledon Tournament, US Open 2008, Finals also inspired me greatly. Fairuz Conert who is a Lebanese singer, sang in Bahrain in her concert and it was amazing to see how she aroused three different generations with her voice and words. 6. What historical moment or event do you wish you could have witnessed? I wish to have witnessed the first astronauts travelling to the moon entering the unknown and discovering the unbelievable. For me, the greatest achievement of humankind is to enter the space. To us, the moon looks beautiful and inspiring but the feelings of the Neil Armstrong would be matchless when he touched the surface of moon. I really wish to witness the scene and his happiness of achievement. 7. What five words best describe you? Stanford students are widely known to possess a sense of intellectual vitality. Tell us about an idea or an experience you have had that you find intellectually engaging. The subject of time travel seems to have lost its potency to stir the minds of common people considering that during these past decades the topic has been explored hundreds of times in books, television programs and films. It is too trivial already to make those realize who make the daily grind to put food on their table to be astounded or even overwhelmed by it. Yet, this overly used idea, if seen in a serious scientific perspective, possesses an inherent precious meaning regarding the nature of the universe that can push the boundary of knowledge of humanity to a higher level. The idea of time travel pushes the imaginative minds of physicists and scientists in making this endeavor something that they can put as one of those near-to-impossible goals, the way our ancestors used to imagine and dream that they can reach the moon. In this regard what fascinates me about the idea of time travel consists of one major point: the theory of parallel universe. From many readings that I did regarding the subject, the theory on the existence of wormholes and space-time continuum are already a given stuff about the topic. This point concerning parallel universe is something new to me and continuously blowing my mind as I ponder about it. I’m sure already that sooner or later humans can travel through time. Most probably time travelers have traveled back to where we are now and tinkering already with our history but we just don’t know it. But tinkering with history is something like messing up with people so the time travel paradox was born. How can you be there when the father of your father died in the past because somebody tinkered with his history? But to this paradox comes the answer of a parallel universe. It’s like one becomes two, two becomes ten thousand. To sum it up, it goes something like this: I am here and I am everywhere at the same time in a multiversity. 2. Virtually all of Stanford’s undergraduates live on campus. What would you want your future roommate to know about you? Tell us something about you that will help your future roommate and us know you better. I would like my roommate to know about my personality, talents, interests and hobbies so that we can have a good time together. I was born in the United States, but have been educated in Bahrain. My academic zeal has always been surprising and the desire to go higher up the ladder of knowledge and achievement resulted in an invitation from the National Society of High School Scholars for my high academic achievement. My interests lie in studying Mathematics and Physics and I believe that a well-rounded personality has to have extra-curricular participation too. I believe that social service and community involvement are important qualities in an individual from a social perspective. Many people may fare academically well, but there are few who also excel in social and charity involvement. I have had community involvement in the form of several small projects in my community in Bahrain and with charity fundraisers to help the disabled. I have a flair for learning languages and I believe I do it quick. I am familiar with English, French, Arabic and Spanish in the written domain as well as possess adequate understanding of Italian. I have outstanding talent for soccer. I was interviewed by Aston Villa scouts in 2009. In addition, I was offered a financial offer and the position of left –winger with Marseilles. I am a great dancer and love to imitate well known artists in the entertainment industry and have made a few videos of my own. I love to interact with new cultures which give my excellent network capability. I remain on active relationships with my friends despite location, culture or distances. 3. Tell us what makes Stanford a good place for you Stanford University enjoys a sound reputation, which it has earned with the passage of time and this fact makes it an attractive choice for the students. I have seen many famous people coming out of Stanford as it seems to provide the academic zeal and the inspirational atmosphere for people to flourish. As far as my knowledge is concerned, I think that Stanford University promises success and achievement to its entrants and helps them in achieving their set goals. It must have been around two years when I first set foot on a visit to the campus of Stanford University with my parents. My parents always reminded me of the scene and our visit. We took a picture there. However, for me it is not a picture of a campus, it is the picture of a place where I have determined to study. This picture is a true reflection of my persistence, my determination for success. Stanford University is a kind of a dream for me that needs fulfillment, which is only possible if I get admission here. Stanford University is a university that meets my expectations of what a university should be: located in an urban environment and keeping goals of balancing academics, sports and social activities with an ambition of molding students into better individuals.
