Recreational Facilities for Ladies in Muslim Community - Research Paper Example

The aim of the paper is to create awareness regarding recreational activities and their acceptance in Islam. It is necessary to clear the misconceptions of many people who consider these activities to be prohibited in Islam. In an extensive literature review, the theoretical scopes and socio-cultural and religious possibilities of recreational activities for Muslim women have been examined. Then Al Barsha community was chosen for the field-level research. With a predesigned questionnaire, the research was led among 60 women, and depending on the finding the recommendations were made.

Background

Recreational activities play great roles in helping people to get socialize. There are many kinds of recreational activities that can be adapted. Recreational activities are equally important for Muslim ladies as well. Many people consider that Islam does not allow such activities for women. It is a wrong concept as Islam focuses on living life in a perfect way. It does not consider that recreational activities should not be performed. Instead, it considers that recreational activities are naturally important for a healthy life (Ask, K. 1998).

Recreational activities are equally important for men and women. These recreational activities are important in order to create a balance in the life of people. Women also need to have recreational activities so that they can feel fresh after the tiring schedule (Dagkas, S. 2006). After the challenges and hardships of life, these recreational activities are very necessary for peace of mind. Muslim communities in different countries are trying hard to develop recreational centers.  These centers should be developed for the women so that they can relax themselves (Diamond, L. 2010).

According to the Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi, human beings do have desires and for this reason, they also need to relax and enjoy. So, the facilities for enjoyment should be provided to the women. It should be tried that these facilities may not distract them from Islam and its practices.
