School Chapter 18 of The Voyage of the Beagle Charles Darwin has indeed described many of the aspects of life in this book, particularly in Chapter 18, when he wrote an account of his visit to Tahiti and New Zealand. He described Tahiti as “charming” (Forgotten Books).Darwin included the physical appearance of the people in his narration. He described them as mild, and the men were ‘tall, broad- shouldered, athletic, and well-proportioned “so that he likened it to an ornamented truck “of a noble tree embraced by a delicate creeper” (Forgotten Books).

He later implied in his narration that this appearance was brought by their work, wherein men are accustomed to carry as much as 100 pounds on their shoulders. He described the women as inferior in physical appearance as the men as they were tattoed as much as the men. He also described the people as fashinable both young and old. Darwin’s description of their physical appearance is incomparable to the present. Nowadays, women are more well-dressed than men and they dress entirely different from men.

This is one thing that the society has improved on, even in developing countries. One things however that resembles the Tahitians people in Darwin’s time to the present is the love for fashion. Fashion trendy people do not care much about how they look like, what matters to them is what is fashionable. We, people of today have the same character.
