The designer might have thought that the seven colors in the logo may remind the viewers about the seven continents and Apple’s popularity worldwide. Moreover, a handful of colors used in this logo made the logo attractive and because of color richness, this logo caught the attention even at first look.

Seven colors arranged in an apple shape forced the viewers to analyze the apple logo more deeply. “As for the rainbow stripes of the logo, Steve Jobs is rumored to have insisted on using a colorful logo as a means to “humanize” the company” (The Evolution and History of the Apple Logo, 2009) A bite was incorporated to the Apple logo by the designer just to make sure that the viewers may not misunderstand it as a tomato instead of an apple. The shape of the apple and tomato are almost the same and if the bite was not there, viewers might have misinterpreted it as a tomato, and Apple’s effort to remind the brand name through its logo might have been spoiled.

The monochrome logo was launched in 1998 to give the Apple Company a polished look. The changing trends, lifestyles, and needs of consumers forced Apple to make necessary corrections to its logo to make it more professional. The multicolor logo was expensive and it created a lot of inconveniences for Apple to accommodate it in its iMac series. The excessive use of detail in the logo will seriously compromise its ability to be reproduced. Fine details will disappear when printed in smaller sizes (iStockPhoto, 2010). Apple made their logo so simple which helped them to decrease the reproduction costs immensely. They used simple colors and avoided excessive use of gradient colors in their logo to make it simple and to decrease the printing or reproduction costs as the printing of gradient colors is expensive. 
“Keeping the design simple allows for flexibility in size. Ideally, the design should work at a minimum of around one inch without loss of detail”.
