Extract of sample "The Process of Personal Development"

Included in the said phase are the determination of the personal strengths, weaknesses, feedback from other people, both positive ad negative, and the different performance indicators (Cottrell, 2010; Self Improvement Mentor Website, 2009).

Based on the said parameters, the first focus is the determination of skills.  On a personal note, my strengths include the capability of expression and logical and critical thinking.  In most cases, the capability to establish the principles surrounding certain events is one of the fundamental attributes.  In terms of the capability of self-expression, there is a number of ways that can be considered as strength such as in verses as well as artistic visual expression.  These are considered strengths since they can support the professional expertise that can be achieved through studies.

Upon the determination of the strengths, knowledge of one’s weaknesses is another important phase (Self Improvement Mentor Website, 2009).  Although self-expression is one of my strengths, my professional communication skills and self-esteem can be limitations in certain cases.  This can be attributed to inadequate experience in the said skills.  Basically at the present, self-evaluation can bring about the need to polish technical skills to be able to have the capability for expertise on the professional level.  This view had been achieved through the feedback gathered from other people of close interaction, in addition to self-assessment.

Feedback from other people is important for a person’s development because they can observe performance and attitude from a perspective different from the person himself.  In taking into consideration feedback though, it is important to prioritize the objectivity of the person (Self Improvement Mentor Website, 2009).  Positive feedback from people of close interpersonal interaction had been gathered.  One of the constructive criticism that had been received is the need to be focused on doing a single task due to the tendency to multitask with a variety of goals in perspective.

Upon stepping into the professional world and joining any professional organization, performance indicators are important factors of assessment (Cottrell, 2010).  At this stage though, the comparison of the feedback and perception of others in addition to personal goals can be considered as the main goals.  Based on the analysis of these parameters, goal setting for personal development planning is the fundamental primary step.

Personal Development Plan

After the determination of the current state of personality and character, the goals for improvement are then established.  In the said stage the desired state of one’s self is put into focus and the reasons for the established goals are also expressed (Cottrell, 2010; Rughani, 2001; Self Improvement Mentor Website, 2009).

The personal goals needed to be achieved in my case are the improvement of professional communication skills and the enhancement of the capability to focus on a particular goal.  In terms of communication skills, a high level of proficiency is important to be able to achieve a level of efficiency considered an asset to an organization.  Another main goal is the enhancement of the capability to focus on a particular goal.

Focus is the most important factor for self-improvement and personal development at different levels.  From the establishment of the goals to be followed to the continuation of the implementation of the PDP, the focus is fundamental (Self Improvement Mentor Website, 2009).  Basically, if the capability to focus is harnessed, every goal that is set and every objective perceived can be achieved.  It is also important in the process of transforming analytical skills, which are my strengths in the application.  Another important factor is the approach to personal development.  This is the main way for putting the goals into action.

Upon the establishment of the goals, the manner of achieving these goals in a specified period of time is the succeeding phase.  Education and guidance of the teachers are important ways to be able to achieve the goals.  Other ways that can be undertaken are development courses and practical applications such as internships and part-time work.

Conclusion

Based on the study undertaken, the process of personal development is important to be able to succeed in the educational and professional fields. On a personal note, characters and skills that are needed to be improved had been established.  These are in terms of professional communication skills and the capability to focus and apply the skills that had been achieved.

It had also been discovered that by using strengths to overcome weaknesses, an improved person can arise.  The set goals are also needed to be achieved at a given period to be able to assess the accomplishments.
