Besides to the daily maintenance of the human bodies, water as well plays a vital function in the avoidance of illness. For example drinking sufficient water daily can cut down the risk of colon cancer by 45%, bladder cancer by 50% and it can even reduce the risk of breast cancer. As water is a vital constituent to the physiology, it is essential that the quality of the water must be as significant as the quantity (APEC, N.D.).
Water is involved in almost every bodily function. The body cannot function devoid of it, similarly as a car cannot run without fuel oil. Every cell in the body needs water to carry out a variety of essential functions. Essential for nearly all physiological functions; water lubricate and cushions organs, transport nutrients, flushes toxins from the body and participate in many normal chemical reactions.
Water is used in digestion and absorption of the food; it as well helps to keep the stools soft to minimize constipation. Further the body’s internal temperature regulation depends upon water. As one perspires, heat is lost during the evaporation process to keep the body cool (APEC, N.D.).
It is very important to have minimum eight glasses of water daily for an average adult. If the person does not consume enough water, he/she can end up with a dehydrated body i.e. when the water level in the body is very little.
