The attraction of Los Angeles has dragged it into movie and shows alike. The image presented in movies has however been biased. Most writers and directors use the charm and mystery that is Los Angeles to support and augment their own stories and perspectives. Therefore in Hollywood movies usually only a limited or much focused view of real Los Angeles is give. The image given in LA Confidential and Blade Runner is just one side of the picture. LA Confidential uses fiction to describe the reality of Los Angeles, portraying it as a crime hub of USA. Blade Runner on the other has shows the multicultural aspect of Los Angeles but portrays the city as a slum of overpopulation with the rich and wealthy living in the sky. Even the rosy and sunny image shown by TV programs such as Baywatch is biased and focuses on one side of the picture.
‘Los Angeles Now’ has tried to make things right by showing a crisp and contemporary image of the City. The picture focuses not only on the presence of many different cultures but points out the problems and issues which are a result of this cultural and ethnic diversity. The movie uses both sounds and imagery mixed with computer generated effects to reflect the mood of this great city. The movie explores many different and conflicting points of views. The lack of center in the city has been discussed. Like other metropolitans Los Angeles is spread into many different directions. This uneven spread has made many different cities in Los Angeles. People of different areas therefore would define Los Angeles differently and sometimes these definitions are more different than one could expect.
The new ethnic mix of Los Angeles was a key focus of this movie. The population dynamic of Los Angeles are changing rapidly. The old Anglo work force is phasing out. Their place is being taken by the new Latinos and Asians. It would be up to this
