One of the reasons that the management could cite is in the fact that the union leaders actually have some ulterior motives in the fight for higher wages and benefits. The return of the authorization cards would mean that the efforts of the leaders of the union would be futile as they would have no right to fight for the workers they claim to represent (Craver, 1995).
As long as the authorization cards have not been returned, the employees of Happy Trails would have every right to talk to the organizers of the union. Hence, the decision to tell the workers not to talk to the union organizers is not a good idea. Another reason that the first decision would not be the best is in the fact that the employees do not have the legal rights to vote against the union organizers as the agreement on the authorization card is still binding on them (Colman, 1995). The employees have already nominated the union organizers to represent them in collective bargaining through their attestation of the authorization card. Hence, the best alternative of the management team of Happy Trails is to implore their workers to ask for the return of their authorization cards. The return of the authorization cards would establish the illegitimacy of the union organizers and would render their struggle for higher benefits and wages
