? Job Evaluation Job Evaluation Introduction Job structure generally depends on the type of industry and the type of work in which it is associated. Job evaluation is considered to be the most prominent aspect of an organization. This is done to ensure that the particular job is accomplished with the specified techniques and operations. Evaluation is not an easy task; instead it involves various sub tasks which compose the entire job of operating on a particular principle. Job evaluation is generally carried out on the basis of certain steps and predefined principles. These steps and procedures help the officials to carry out the evaluation procedure in an effective manner. The type of procedures used in job evaluation purely depends on the type of industry and the nature of work. The work load and the operations pertain to a particular industry and this differs from one industry to another. The type of work has gone through a change when compared to the past and the development in each industry has contributed to the expansion at a larger pace. Due to this factor, it becomes difficult for an organization to maintain the same old procedures in evaluating the jobs and analyzing the operations. Though job evaluation is an important concept in an organization, the way in which it is implemented plays a major role. The process of implementation involves several steps that define the operations to be executed while evaluating the particular work. The efficiency of work purely depends on the environment and the situation in which the particular work is carried out. This decides the effectiveness of the job and based on this the evaluation is carried out. The next major aspect has a great influence on the job is the level of pressure and competition that is involved in this job. In certain situations an urge to complete the proposed job might be more. In this case, the efficiency of the job is analyzed by checking the way in which the proposed work was completed. In today’s industrial market, competition is comparatively more and the industries have the responsibility to maintain a standard to withstand in the market. The changing market conditions pose various challenges to an organization and the organization must be prepared and well equipped to manage these changes. Competition in this sort of environment is certainly difficult and the employees have to prove their mettle in order to improve and develop the organization. Job Evaluation at Whole Foods Each industry has a specific set of regulations based on which they perform their operations. These regulations are altered to suit the needs of the customers. Since change is inevitable, these organizations must incorporate new ideologies and policies to have an edge over the other similar organizations. This can be achieved only if they follow a set of predefined procedures to perform job evaluation. When compared to the other industries, food industry is the one that is more prone to problems. Since people have a direct contact with the workers of the food industry, it is important for them to evaluate and analyze their job at regular intervals. (Milkovich & Newman, 2008). This will ensure that the customers are satisfied and it will also enable the officials to know about their expectations. The Whole Foods market is one among the popular food markets and it is one of the most sought after markets in the city. Whole Foods has already completed the process of job analysis and the job descriptions have also been presented. As a consultant I would suggest them to prepare a job structure which is purely based on the description of job. Job evaluation is generally done based on the job description. The job structure can be designed by inspecting the type of work and the operations involved in the particular job. The job structure includes the job titles and the job description. Job evaluation is done by defining and checking the operations involved in each and every job. Job Structure As given in the case study, each job is analyzed and described based on their activities. The kind of work and the requirements for each job is specified in such a way that it clearly portrays the nuances of the job and the expectations of the company. Customer Service Executive In this job the person must be efficient enough to handle the customer’s queries and must have the capability to maintain the trade operations. He should have a complete control over the stocks and must update the information to the concerned department at regular intervals. (Milkovich & Newman, 2008). The person must also possess strong communication skills and must have the ability to learn things at a faster pace. Maintenance Executive The work of a maintenance executive is to manage the cash transactions of the foods market. He must also maintain the stock records and manage the supply of foods. The person must possess good communication and math skills so that he can manage the market effectively. Supervisor This job requires more responsibility since it involves the process of hiring the employee, providing them with training and terminating the employees in case of necessity. The person must be well qualified and must possess relevant work experience. Since food market is a place where customer’s orders have to be delivered within a specified time. So the concerned person must maintain the standards in an effective way. Team Member The main job of the team member is to assist the team leader during the team operations. The person must be capable enough to collect the reports from other team members and must submit them to the concerned team leader. (Milkovich & Newman, 2008). Trainee This job involves preparation of food items and cleaning the kitchen and maintaining a proper environment. Apart from these job titles, there are several other positions that involve maintenance and management work. The efficiency of the concerned work depends on the potential of the employee. Process and Techniques The job structure is prepared using the nature of job and the requirements of the particular job. Since the customers expect the foods to be delivered on time, the employer must select a capable employee who can manage the foods market in an efficient way. The important process involves selection and recruitment of candidates who can manage the given position in an effective way. The job structure is designed in such a way that it provides more benefits to the Whole Foods market. Job Descriptions Job description is generally decided based on the requirement of the foods market. The qualification and number of years of experience purely depends on the position. This enables the organization to have a control over the employees and the various jobs in the food market. As this is a food market, the level of responsibility is more when compared to other industries. Description of job and evaluation of job plays a major role. Conclusion Job evaluation is an important part of an organization’s activity. It ensures that the jobs are well managed and maintained. This job evaluation is done based on the title of job and their respective description. This ensures that the job evaluation is done in an effective manner. A job structure is also created with the job title and job description. The job structure is prepared with certain predefined procedures and policies. These techniques are selected based on the each and every job title and requirements. Job structure is essential for proceeding with the process of job evaluation.
