World Literature Response I greatly appreciated the reflection on Sunjata. In addition to the elucidation it offered on the various aspects of the story it lead me to consider a number of means by which this myth is still relevant and important in contemporary society. While many individuals reading the story with a contemporary perspective might believe that such literature is out-dated or overly mythical, in reading the reflection on the story I recognized that in many regards individuals face the same challenges as were faced in the story.

For instance, I greatly appreciated Sunjata’s emphasis on the power of will and determination in accomplishing life tasks and battles. I recognize that these are values that while not directly applicable to real life (nobody would readily chop their leg off to demonstrate a giving nature), these values of drive and will surface in other aspects of life; for instance, a giving nature is important in relationships and love, and passion and will-power are necessary to succeed in business and life.

In terms of the Petrach story I also recognized that there were many such similarities between the tale and its application to contemporary existence. While in large part the descriptive features were biographical, there applicability to contemporary existence is just as viable as in Sunjata. It’s clear in these regards that the easy path is generally not the proper path towards success. In achieving success one must go about it the right way, for what seems difficult at the time in the long-run it is argued will prove to be the correct way.

Ultimately, it’s the recurrence of these thoughts in these very old stories and in contemporary society that demonstrates their importance as their cyclical nature attests to a certain truth of their reality.
