Khaled Hosseini has played the magic of his creativity to present the boring and tiresome history of Afghanistan in a colorful way. People conventionally find the study of political and historic issues quite boring and lose interest halfway through the literature. In such cases, fictional stories can work wonders. They add to the knowledge of the audience without making them feel exhausted.

The filming of the novel has evoked great controversy and criticism particularly as the 12-year-old boy is shown to be raped by Assef. The child stars feared that they might be executed by the offended Afghans. Besides, the rape scenes are sufficiently provocative to stir up controversies among the audience.
