The Value of College Education Introduction Swami Vivekananda, the great spiritual leader and man of divinity from 19th century India said “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man” (SCRIBD, “Golden Words of Swami Vivekananda”). Very much true to his quote is the fact that education is primarily concerned with the perfection of the pre-conceived notions or knowledge already present in human mind. The Value of College Education Swami Vivekananda also said that “The secret of life is not the enjoyment, but education through experience” (SCRIBD, “Golden Words of Swami Vivekananda”).

The greatest achievement of education lies in the percolation of thoughts and implementation of those thoughts into our daily lives. And the exact value of college education lies there. College education does not fall under compulsory education. The term, ‘college education’ is a huge umbrella term and might indicate the areas like graduation or post-graduation. College education falls under the broad head of higher education and essentially indicates the attainment of perfection in any precise field after receiving the formal education in school.

College education falls under tertiary or third stage of education and mainly includes undergraduates and post-graduate courses. Vocational education and training also falls under this broad head. The value of college education is immense. It helps to perfect the fundamental knowledge and excel the quest of knowledge that one is set off to receive in any particular field. In college education, the choice of the subject depends upon the interest of the candidate pursuing or intending to pursue any particular course and this enables to open up a wider and enlightened vista pertaining to that subject.

The college education helps to find the path; the way out through which the education received at that level can be implemented or percolated through menial chores of life. Through the recipient of college education, the circle gets completed and perfected. The college education also helps to widen the perception about life. College and universities are places where scholars and students across the globe come to receive education. This enables to receive the international view and helps to understand different people, culture and their heritage thereby helping one to inculcate the good part of the alien culture into their own life.

College education is the platform where the cross-cultural and inter-cultural relations and exchanges grow and break the parochial vision of life and education in front a student. College education enables to open up new avenues of innovations and inventions. It prepares a research bent of mind for a student and reshapes the inquisitions and excavates the analytical mind of the student. College education enlightens, elevates and liberates the spirit and mind from the dark shackles of ignorance and pre-occupation.

Received at a matured realm, it completes the trajectory of education and the quest for life. Conclusion The value of college education is immense and elaborate. Its influence cannot be captivated within narrow barrier of limited words. It is un-comprehended yet complementary to a complete life. Measuring the value of college education is similar to the measuring of the depth of an ocean. To sum up in few words, one can admit easily that college education not only enlightens and makes one independent but also helps to liberate the mind and soul of a student.
