Personal Opinion My reaction The World’s Most Dangerous Drug, the YouTube video by The National Geographic Channel unveils the side effects ofdrug abuse, especially the abuse of methamphetamine. One can easily identify that drug abuse is not limited to any national boundary. The drastic effect of drug abuse does not prevent millions from being preys to harmful drugs. As the drug abusers are living in an imaginary world, they are not aware of the negative effect of the same upon their mental and physical health.

Most of the addicts start harmful drugs during their teen age. But they are not aware of the fact that they are going to be the victims of harmful drugs. The effort undertaken by the Channel to create awareness about the harmful effects of drugs like methamphetamine is noteworthy. But it does not help the addicts because they live in an imaginary world, far away from reality. This momentary relief from worldly worries and problems does not help them to solve their problems faced in day to day life.

So, rehabilitation work is most important to get rid of methamphetamine addiction. From a different angle of view, the video by The National Geographic Channel acts the role of an awareness program preventing the teen agers from getting addicted to methamphetamine. But the problem of methamphetamine addiction is still unresolved. So, measures must be adopted to create awareness among the teen agers (say, they are possible preys to methamphetamine addiction) and to rehabilitate the addicts with due care and attention.

My personal opinion about the video My personal opinion about the video is that it acts the role of an eye opener to the possible victims of methamphetamine. Weisheit and White makes clear that “ The National Geographic Channel, which usually focuses on the more mundane, ran a documentary about methamphetamine titled “The World’s Most Dangerous Drug” ” (2). The narrator’s comment on methamphetamine as the drug which stops at nothing is noteworthy because it reveals its global reach.

In the video, a victim reveals that methamphetamine addiction affected her proper functioning in the society. This revelation exposes the side effects of drug abuse, especially methamphetamine addiction. More and more drug addicts are attracted to methamphetamine because it is cheaper than cocaine. The video reveals that methamphetamine destroys the victim’s body, mind and soul. The story of Janelle and her boyfriend, visualized in the video reveals the darker side of drug addiction.

Besides, the graphic visual related to the spread of methamphetamine in the western states and its global spread (26 million) is informative. The video proves that the western states in America, London, South Africa and Australia are under the threat of methamphetamine. The visuals prove that the effort undertaken by the narcotic department proves to be effective to deal with this problem. Besides, interviews conducted at the jails, digital records etc prove the negative effect of methamphetamine addiction and the scope of rehabilitation process.

Personally, the helplessness seen in the eyes of the victims is still haunting me because it is stronger than words and hard to explain. In short, the video is effective and informative and I am sure that it will help millions to keep themselves away from methamphetamine. ReferencesWeisheit, Ralph, and William L. White.
