Interest in Nursing - Essay Example

I want to become a nurse, to acquire the skills I saw displayed when my child was sick, for two important reasons. The first is so I will never have to feel the abject horror and helplessness I did when my son was sick. I never want to feel helpless, to not know what to do, and not know what the problem is again. I want to be able to make quick and helpful decisions for the welfare of my child, and for loved ones all around me. The second is that I remember what amazing support the nursing staff was, and I want to be able to give others the kind of comfort I received when my child was sick.

I know first-hand how important a nurse can be to someone’s life, and I want to take that role on to help others in need. It seems more and more that nurses are the center of health care, doing the brunt of treatment, patient contact and so on, and I would feel extremely lucky to have the opportunity to learn these skills and talents, and to be an important part of a team delivering health care to those who need it.
