Effective and Motivating Communication - Admission/Application Essay Example

It considerably helped to expedite the process through the dissemination of important information so that work could be amicably divided amongst the team members to complete the project. I was part of Habitat for Humanity where the Risk Management team had to put up drywall for one of Habitat Humanity houses. In the 100 plus degree hot and humid temperature, we all lacked motivation, but the shared goal of helping a family to survive in this weather remained our priority. The motivating leadership of the team leader constantly encouraged us to complete our work timely and efficiently.

Through effective communication and collective decision making, a well-defined plan was formulated to finish the project within 5 hours. The team was divided into small groups for tackling different parts of the house and the project was successfully completed within the defined time limit. The project taught me important things about effective teamwork. At the same time, it also clearly showed that I have the inherent ability to communicate effectively. I had done so within my group when heat and humidity had become overpowering.

This strength of mine will contribute to the next undergraduate business class; it goes hand in hand with Kenan Flagler Business School’s motto “Shaping Leaders Driving Results”. In order to be a successful leader, you must communicate well. Inculcating leadership qualities would help me realize my dreams. And hence, by being a part of this program, I will both contribute and learn from my peers to attain an enriching business school experience which I’ll be able to productively leverage into my professional career.

Strong teamwork is a vital constituent of the work paradigm and effective communication can cut across racial, cultural and national differences to evolve common goals. The internship at GE had amply demonstrated the role of leadership initiative and communication within the team which was able to finish the project despite extreme weather conditions. Effective and motivating communication; teamwork; and leadership initiatives are crucial inputs that would contribute to the next graduate class. I strongly believe that my ability to apply work skills in real-life situations will usefully contribute to the next undergraduate class.

Indeed, being a part of this program will further enhance my business acumen through classroom learning and summer internship opportunities. It would instil a perceptible understanding of the wide-ranging issues that impact work performance. Therefore, I would be better equipped to meet the challenges of time.
