The report further explores the advantages and disadvantages on non-financial motivation and finally looks into the importance of motivation at the workplace. In the contemporary world, companies must work to retain good employees and motivate them to give the highest output. Regardless of the size or nature of the firm, having a motivated staff is crucial to the success of the business. If employees lose their motivation, they tend to be less productive and creative and end up being a liability to the company (Accell- Team, 2011).

Firms are required to pay attention to their physiological, financial and psychological needs (About.com, 2011). Fundamental financial conditions of service are determined by external factors in most occupations. For this reason, there is scope for financial and other motivations to be used at restricted levels. Seeing that staffing requirements vary with the productivity of employees, good personnel policies are desirable. Employee turnover in the hospitality industry for example fast food restaurants and hotels globally has serious financial implications (Gallo, 2011).

In more comprehensible terms, it costs a company to recruit and train a replacement. Even though the turnover rate in the hospitality industry is alarming, some companies report decreased rates and are considerably more successful in retaining their staff. Generally, high levels of motivation among employees translate to a decrease in turnover. Employment in the hospitality industry is considered temporary with the workers continually leaving to find better jobs. This explains why employees in this industry should be constantly motivated so as to improve their performance and to retain them.

According to this theory, motivation is based on two factors which are hygiene and motivation. This theory is based on job enrichment and suggests that money is not only the driving force behind employee motivation. The
