REFERENCES: Available upon request Reflection: The restaurant business is my future The ultimate goal of my career will be to enter into the business world as the owner of a bar. To get to this place in my life, so that I have prepared myself for the experience and have the best possible chance at success, I have worked in the restaurant business, primarily behind the bar, and have pursued an education towards this goal. My primary joy in being in the food and beverage industry is in the interactions that I have with my customers. I believe that owning my own bar will give me the opportunity to give my patrons the kind of experience that I think they will most enjoy. Through creating a business venture that is designed to the way that I think customers will best enjoy their experience, I will find satisfaction in my creation and will have an enjoyable career. There are many steps that I will take before I am ready to open my own bar. I have begun those steps and it is my intention to continue on this career path. The first step that I have taken towards this career is to have worked continually at a food and beverage establishment. I have worked for Beni Hana’s for six years, continuing employment with one business in order to increase my responsibilities and to learn through hands on training a variety of aspects of working in a bar and restaurant. I have had the opportunity to learn what the entry level personnel experience, as well as continue forward towards management duties that are given perspective from my previous experiences. My love for customer service has been in spending a great deal of time seeing both old and new faces enter the business, creating relationships and improving my skills in such a way that returning customers have the opportunity to experience the growth of my service knowledge. I have enjoyed my position with the company to the point of having developed a passion for the industry. This has led me towards my decision to spend my career in food and beverage, with the ultimate goal of owning my own establishment. In the process of creating real life experience through my employment, I began to realize that it was important to also get an education in the hospitality industry. I have approached my education with DeVry University with the intent of gaining a wealth of knowledge that will provide me with the understanding of the business that will take my career to the next level. Through my educational experiences, I believe that I can attain a job with a corporation that will give me a broader experience in food and beverage management, while providing a reasonable and livable salary. Through my education with DeVry, I can provide an employer with both real life experience and a degreed level of knowledge that will greatly contribute to their business. After several years working for a good corporation as one of their managers, hopefully rising through the ranks to higher positions, I will gain the experience that I need to enter into the business world as a business owner. I intend to continue my education in human resources in order to broaden my background and to create a highly employable individual for the food and beverage industry. The food and beverage industry is an industry about people. People are social when they go to a restaurant or bar, and the employees are the core of how a restaurant or business finds its success. In learning how to successfully and generously manage employees, I will be able to fulfill my dreams of creating a bar that will reflect my desires to provide high quality service. Through the advancement of my education I can create a background that is multi-faceted and still focused on my ultimate goals, while providing for the intermediary goals of employment with a solid corporate owned restaurant. Once I have attained my education and spent time learning in the corporate world, my goal of creating a business should happen as I have well prepared for the event and will have supported my dreams through good planning. Preparation is key to true business success, and I believe that my plan provides for solid planning. Read More
