Indeed, DUBAL’s company profile is enchanting as it stands out as a shining example of industrial excellence, through its ownership and operation of its worldwide biggest aluminium smelters plant. History Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) is the seventh largest global producer of high quality finished aluminum products in the industry. With its inception as a wholly state owned enterprise in 1979, Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) has been existent for the over 30 years. The main reason behind the states establishment of Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) was to add value to the vast countrys oil-rich mineral resource as it would result in the diversification of the UAE economy. The company’s production capacity has grown over the years with the installation of modern smelters that produce approximately one million metric tons of high-quality molten aluminium annually (Dubai Aluminium Company Limited n.d). Furthermore, DUBAL is currently overseeing an aggressive growth plan as it seeks to become one amongst the top five worldwide aluminium producers by the year 2015. As one of the leading producers of high quality finished aluminium, DUBAL owns one of the worldwide largest aluminium smelters plant. Established on a four hundred and eighty hectare site in Jebel Ali the company has established a state of the art plant centralized in one locality allowing it to function smoothly as it produces over one million metric tonnes of aluminium. Unlike other companies that operate in the United Arabs Emirates (UAE), DUBAL is one of Dubai’s industrial flagships it is one of the prevalent non-oil companies that adds up to the country’s economy. As a company that focuses on the production of high quality finished aluminum products, it serves a vast number of electronics and aerospace industries that operate worldwide. It focuses on its power of partnership with its employees, customers, government, suppliers, and the community under, which it operates. Purpose of the company Dubai’s government founded Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) in order to boost its economy through production of high quality finished aluminum products for its users in the electronics and aerospace industries. As a result, DUBAL has acquired a base of more than three hundred customers distributed worldwide in more than forty-five countries while offering employment to both local and foreign employees (Dubai Aluminium Company Limited n.d). Company’s Philosophy and Culture As DUBAL oversees its success in the highly competitive aluminium production industry the power of partnership, corporate values and governance is highly upheld. Corporate governance based on sound business ethics optimizes environmental, economic, and social sustainability. On the other hand, the nurturing of long-term and trust based relationship towards employees, government, suppliers, community, and customers while ensuring best practice framework, and a general adherence to outright quality has overseen its success. Board of Directors Since, Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) is a state owned corporation the board of directors comprises of a panel of eight members with the chairperson, vice chairperson, and other six directors (Dubai Aluminium Company Limited n.d). The chairperson is H H Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum an appointee of the state who is the deputy Ruler of Dubai, and United Arabs Emirates (UAE) Minister of Finance. The managing director of the company is Saeed Mohammed Ahmed Al Tayer who acts as the Managing Director & CEO: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. Organizational Structure As a big corporation, Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) has a well-established organizational structure that arranges employees in their respective jobs in order to ensure that work is well performed and the company goals are duly met. Because of its large plant size and complexity the organization has three categories of employees namely the senior management, supervisory and non-supervisory (Dubai Aluminium Company Limited n.d). Nonetheless, unlike other state owned corporations, DUBAL management believes in maintenance of long-term and trust-based relationships with its employees as they undertake operations. The management and junior employees have a relationship based on in-depth knowledge and expertise. Facilities Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) as a successful organization has well established facilities that oversee its smooth operations. In within the site, complex major facilities are set up comprising of a large carbon plant, a primary aluminium smelter capable of producing one million metric tonne per annum, and a 2,350-megawatt power station that operates at 30°C (Dubai Aluminium Company Limited n.d). In addition, there is a seawater desalination plant, which filters 30 million gallons per day, a casting operations plant that can produce more than 1,161,000 metric tonnes per annum, besides specially equipped laboratories, storage facilities, and port used for exportation purposes. Head office and Branches Locations Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) operates worldwide with its head office situated in Jebel Ali whereby the company’s main plant is set up in the Emirate of Dubai a constituent of one of the seven Emirates of United Arabs Emirates (UAE). In order to ease its operations worldwide the leading distributors of high quality finished aluminum products control four regional branches (Dubai Aluminium Company Limited n.d). The regional branches operations are in United States of America (USA), Italy, Korea, and Switzerland. Company’s Product and Services Undeniably, like other companies in UAE, DUBAL anticipates growing its profitability over the years as it reports an improved growth annually through its sales of high quality finished aluminium products. In the year 2011, the company reportedly expected an increase of its profit at a margin of 30-35 percent as compared to 2010. On the other hand, DUBAL oversees further improvement in its profit level as the Dubai ruler issued a decree that allowed it to engage in investments and issue bonds outside the country to its potential investors (Reuters n.d). Company’s Employees One notable corporate strategy of Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL) is to ensure that it remains an employer of choice especially among the United Arabs Emirates (UAE) worldwide. As a result, its focus remains on guaranteeing a protective environment for its employees by maintaining high safety and health standards of its employees and community. Its workforce entails employees on either temporary or permanent basis (Dubai Aluminium Company Limited n.d). With the expertise, training and motivation the employees at DUBAL work in well-scheduled shifts to ensure continuous operation of the complex structured plant. Employment at DUBAL gives an individual a competitive remuneration as the company believes that employees are the greatest asset towards their success. The main consideration undertaken by DUBAL’s human resource department when ascertaining the starting salary of its employee is to ensure that they are comfortable. With emphasis on being competitive in the industry, the company not only focuses on giving their employees an attractive package but also prominence place of skill transfer, career development and training. With a work force of both female and males, ranging from the age of 25 to 60 years twenty two percent in 2009 of the total employees in DUBAL come from UAE while the other employees come from other parts of the world. At DUBAL, the workforce entails of full time and part time employees with both male and female workers contracted in the head office and regional branches. With various departments in the company, both skilled and non-skilled workers from local and internationally, are recruited yearly with on the job training to further their skill and knowledge level. Recent changes in company structure, product or service lines In order to improve its operations and achieve its goal of being among the top five aluminium-producing industries worldwide by 2015, the management has come up with strategic aggressive growth plans (Dubai Aluminium Company Limited n.d). As a result, DUBAL Company in partnership with Deloitte introduced business software known as SAP ERP application that maintains the processing in the plant. DUBAL also oversees an expansive growth in its profitability and growth through its upcoming new projects and smelter expansions. Interest in the company As I look out to establish and grow my career, I have always had an interest in a company that will allow room for innovativeness, foundation for in-depth knowledge that builds expertise, which is no doubt existent at, DUBAL. In addition, I also have an interest in establishing long lasting relationships with other people and build better relations. One unique feature that attracts many individuals to work with DUBAL is the power of partnership amongst its employees and stakeholders irrespective of ranks, which leads to the long-term relationship.
