Topic: Congestive Heart Failure Introduction: Congestive heart failure is a medical referred to the condition of heart failure. In this condition the heart fails to pump enough blood to the entire body. Cognitive Heart Failure can be categorized as “systolic” or “diastolic” heart failure. The risk of incurring heart failure becomes more common with an increase in age. Age factor plays an important role and the risk of getting a heart failure increases .Systolic Heart Failure: In this condition, the hearts fails to pump at a normal speed.

This condition can be measured in terms of medical as ejection fraction (EF). This clinical measurement determines the amount of blood ejected out of the left ventricle which is divided by the maximum amount of blood left in the left ventricle during the relaxation state. Normally, the ejection fraction is always greater than the 50 percent. Systolic heart failure occurs when the ejection fraction is less than 50 percent.Diastolic Heart Failure: Contraction of heart is a natural phenomenon but it becomes a bit difficult for the heart to contract in the state of relaxation or if it is filling blood.

This state hinders the process of blood filling into the heart and thus, it produces backup in the lungs. As a result, cognitive heart failure occurs. It has been observed that diastolic heart failure is common in people falling in their mid-seventies especially in women with high blood pressure. Ejection fraction is found normal during diastolic heart failure Symptoms of Cognitive Heart Failure: The symptoms of cognitive heart failure happen when a heart fails to pump enough blood required by the rest of the body.

People may feel:-Tiredness or fatigue- Shortness of breathing- Pounding or racing of the heart- Weakness or dizziness. In extreme conditions, a person may likely to feel:Out of breathe even in phase of relaxation.Swelling in legs, ankles and feet.Quick weight gain in a day or two.Coughing when at restExcessive urination at night.Bloated.Other Terms for this Condition:CHF; Congitive heart failureLeft-sided heart failureRight-sided heart failureList of References:‘Heart Failure’ Accessed Online on 23rd January, 2012.
