Task Talent Identification Sport Basketball Introduction There are various talented individuals in the society whose exposure tothe proper channels in the society is limited. The government is one institution that may promote talent development in its citizens via various resources that it is capable of implementing. Talent identification is one area that the government implements to tackle the issues that revolve around the impending constraint of energy wastage. The main measure taken towards talent identification is enacted through various institutions and organizations that realize the potential of the talent holder (Williams, 200, p 153). Once the talent is identified, there are various measures these institutions undertake to help develop the talents spotted into developmental implications in the society. Basketball like any other sport finds success in the UK via institutions that promote the development of the talent (Williams & Franks, 1998, p 162). The support issued to develop talents is injected to the disciplines that are the target of promotion via funds that are relayed by separate bodies. The UK Sport is one body that has invested 100 million pounds annually in athletes to promote success especially in the forthcoming games scheduled for London this year. This paper seeks to highlight attributes that are applied in talent development the facilities involved, and the staff promoting the discipline, basketball to be specific. Talents identification, coaching and measures implemented in talent ID In the identification of the basketball talent, there needs to be physiological and various tactical abilities to assess the performance of the athlete (Solomon et al, 1996, p 43). There must be physical fitness involved and a stable medical condition that would enable the subject under consideration to meet the desired expectation (Young et al, 1977, p 243). The coaching staffs is usually charged with the role of identifying the proper physical, and tactical attributes while fitness is determined by the medicine staff or trained individuals capable of correcting or assessing the entity. Basketball requires certain skill and the proper height to be applied in playing the sport. Most subjects should be energetic and lack excessive body fat that may impair mobility, and reduce overall performance (Randak, 1998, p 47). Coaching has been earmarked as the major avenue for development according to UK sport. There are international standards set for the coaches as a quality to meet before they can be accorded uncommon freedom to oversee the nurturing of the talent. Basketball, as indicated requires specific rules. Apart from, the tall physical structure, the subject is presented with a series of tests, to examine the psychological and medical qualifications. The coaches are accorded specific responsibility to identify the key qualification that would make a better basketball player. They have knowledge of the exact potential that the position they would want the subject to participate. The coaches are guided under strict laws that help guard the participating athletes. For the maturing basketball players, there are law that provide their protection from any form of physical harm during the evaluation process. With each evaluation process, the coaches are capable of compiling a list of appropriate measures to be applied to identify the talent properly without discrimination and omission of potential individuals that may have better skills in basketball. The coaching system must be in line with providing fair treatment without any form of discrimination or favour of any individual that is under assessment. The UK talent development team has arranged remarkable events that help identify key areas of talent development, and in various sport events that have specialised coaches to aid in their development. Basketball, for example, has provided the perfect opportunity to invest in talent development looking at the finances invested, with the games to commence in London in 2012. Before the coaches are assigned duties, they are trained to handle their trainees better and tactics that are employed better. The coaching programmes are implemented at every level in the society, mainly from school basketball camps, to the government-initiated camps that promote training of men and women concurrently. The coaches also hold training separately to share the experienced progresses that have been realized in the current trend of recruits. These training camps offer the complete set of facilities with modern state infrastructure in basketball consisting of fully equipped courts and training kit to boost the physique of the participants (Lacy & Goldstonm, 1990, p 32). External help is sought from experienced basketball players who have been invited to attend the training, and set examples of the desired traits. In 2010, for example, a team of thirty-five talented individuals were recruited to attend training in the EIS located in Sheffield where top coaches in Britain and the EIS talent ID experts participate in creating top competitors to build the sport (Clark, 2010). The tests are done to identify the skills in various aspects of the sport that may involve passing or shooting. The ability is allocated a unique design of training manual and procedure to boost its functionality. The training provisions must be in line with the provision of the values that the sport law that dictates participants to uphold discipline encourage fairness and promote discipline among the players. The facilities implemented in the encouragement of the sport have found dominance in advertising the recruitment venues and promoted understanding in workshops held for coaches. The workshops are targeted towards creating better knowledge and awareness of the rules in both men and women who have been identified as experts in the basketball sport. Each coach is handed different certification by the UKCC, which is given the duty to ensure the best sport is delivered in England (Underhill, 2008, p 191). Talent ID and its obstacles To maximize the development of the athletes and the sport, UK sport has financed around 1200 athletes. There is usually no discrimination involved in development of the selected sport as consideration is accorded across able and physically impaired athletes. The investment that the body founded in 1997, supports in talent development include ensuring the performance is heightened, coaching services are improved and the medical attention accorded as required (Ennis, 2012). It also pays close supervision to the measures that are involved in talent ID and uphold technologies that would improve the development of the sport. However, Goldsmith believes that talent identification in the western world has not been successful due to various barriers that have plagued the nations, since most talent ID programmes are physical based. Individuals that possess unique attributes and unique skills in the discipline may fail to be accorded selection into the programmes that would eventually develop them positively. Talent ID may sometimes fail because it may identify an individual to possess the proper skills in basketball, but fail to develop it with various bodies having an assumption that the talented individual would prosper easily with limited help. Politics and jealousy promote impairment because a developed nation that possesses abundant talent, due to the proper organization of their ID programmes may be viewed as illegally perpetrate the action. The democratic society has also played further impairment to the actions of TID programmes because they allow the talented athlete to pursue their desired sport. A talented basketball player may prefer to play soccer to basketball because the constitution may allow them to express their freedom (Goldsmith, 2009). These actions have made basketball development fail in the UK society and other developed countries of the world. There is a desire to develop the sport and identify impairments that may affect the sport thriving positively in the society (Wolstencroft, 2002, p 1). Obstacle Prevention To counter the barriers that have been evident in talent development, there needs to be an encouragement of individuals to be involved in the recruiting process. These plans to identify the talents had initially been centred on the physical attribute overlooking the skills and expertise of the participant. There can be a talented short basketball player whose height can be trained into fitting a role in the court. Though democratic presentations have been provided by the constitution, the sport department needs to enact a policy that favours the talent limit within a given sport. There may be individuals with unique basketball talent and prefer playing football (Wandzilak, Ansorge & Potter, 1988, p 84). Tall players should be tested for basketball skills and incentives provided towards promoting their participation in the selected discipline. Talent ID must be identified as the first step towards creating a successful athlete (Dunman, 2011). Through holding these workshops, there is the realization on the best strategies to be implemented in promoting basketball through proper coaching. The careful talent promotion guides coaching members to the next level that presents constant training and educating members on the revised rules applied in playing. Conclusion Talent ID is crucial in promoting successful players in the national policy promoting development in basketball. There is an attempt by the British government to develop the skills within its sport to produce better competitors towards the London games to be held in 2012. Early identification in the talent generates the desired qualities that would be applied in building better sportsmanship (Woods, 2012). Talent ID programmes are mainly fostered by coaches and the facilities offered to promote their nurturing. The coach are accorded qualification certificate upon completion of training that is conducted in workshops and institutions promoting fairness (Hopkins, 2011).
