Skills are necessary both in professional and personal life. Profound skills are desirable especially in the overly competitive professional world. Whereas some skills are learned, others are intrinsic. This essay seeks to differentiate between work content skills and job-related skills.Work-related skills are skills that are specifically oriented to a particular job. These skills are used to perform job tasks. Examples of work content skills include programming, auditing, and human resource management among others.

Transferable skills are those skills and abilities gained during through various experiences in life or in a professional field that can be used in a variety of fields. Teamwork, time management, personal organization, among others are examples of transferable skills. These activities may be a particular initiative in school, corporate leadership, volunteerism, supervisor ship, among others. A good work skill needed in my business career may include the change in managerial technique and adoption of information technology in business management.

A transferable skill in my business career would be the ability to communicate effectively with managers and subordinates at the workplace. Transferrable skills such as effective communication may be used professionally when communicating with customers.
