Write Reflection What do you expect to get out of this and    why do you think it is or is not important? (200 words) Writing about the topic that interests me is a terrific opportunity to express myself and improve my artistic work. I am expecting to come out of this class with a lot of know how on writing and also with a lot of knowledge about my chosen topic of writing. The benefits of this class are that I will be able to give my work some critical thinking as I research on the topic. I will have the creativity and imagination to write about my topic of interest and hence will be able to write superb quality paper. The skills that I will have acquired from this class will help me in analyzing my chosen topic of interest and hence they will help a lot during my data collection and in writing the conclusion of my topic of interest. As a final year, student, I do not have a lot of time to choose my topic of interest and can not concentrate on it fully since I have to attend to a lot of projects; hence, this class should have been taught in other years and not during the final year. Reflection #2: What are the problems/issues/roadblocks with your paper/topic at this point and what are you going to do about them?  What are the problems/roadblocks that you expect to encounter during this class? (200 words) One of the major difficulties that I face in my Capstone course is time management, as a finalist student I am experiencing some hard time in trying to manage my time well and find enough time to research extensively on my topic on interest. I can not also write as fast as I am required to do since I am using English as a second language. Making a plan to do research on my chosen topic will tremendously help me to acquire the material I need for my research but this is being hindered by my school schedule since I have to juggle and attend several other classes, I also have to do other research in other courses. This is therefore, creating so little time for my capstone course. If I had to get a chance to do capstone without much pressure, I can perform much better and thus make this course an impressive achievement to my life hence add value to my studies. Reflection #3: Critique your writing process.  What worked for you?  What didn’t?  What problems or roadblocks did you hit in the writing process that you could avoid for the rest of the course?  Are these different or the same from roadblock problems in your art/design work and why? (200 words) I become a slow writer when i am faced in dealing with several projects at a time. This becomes even worse when the number of projects are doubled hence creating a jam in my time table. I find it to be exceedingly difficult to concentrate and write one project at a time when I am swamped with several projects. Hence, I will panic, and loose control of my time management schedule and this will make me perform poorly in my projects. The amount of time that I take in researching about one research topic and then get the tangible research material that I find able to write down also cost me a vast deal of my time. This makes me forget that I have got other projects to write about hence; it consumes my time doing one project instead of all other projects. I have to look for extra time to fix my capstone class. This is because I have been extremely busy trying to reduce my work log and hence it has made life a bit difficult for me. Possible topics or subjects (100 words) Spotlight of Child labor Child labor is the act of employing under age children to do chores and jobs that precede their ages. I have always wanted to write about child labor and fully understand why this takes place in this world of ours. As the society knows child labor is prohibited in America but, if you look around the society there are people who are still breaking the law. These people are forcing children to work for meager pay. For example, the movie ‘It takes a child’ that was released in 1998. Origins of fairy tales and their continued use of the same old fairy tales As I grew up, I loved fairy tales that were being showed in the form of animated movies and through story books, but as I became an adult I have noted that the use of the fairy tale stories has been used in the same form, in the movie industry. Issues about teen pregnancy and teen marriage in the media I have always wanted to investigate about teen pregnancy and early marriages in America; I saw television shows like MTV and Teen Mom movie. The popular tattoo designs Personally I do not own any tattoos, but the tattoo culture is particularly astonishing and a terrifically trending culture for people in western countries. There is a variety of designs that range from Chinese characters to Egyptian eyes. People can also tattoo their names and faces or anything they fancy most in their world. I am interested to explore why people choose the different designs and the factors behind the trending tattoo designs. Topic Spotlight of child labor Thesis Child labor is the act of employing children who are not eligible to work as it is defined by the American laws. This practice is exploitative to children by several organisations and countries who say that child labor is illegal in those countries. Although during the past century; child labor was not seen as a bad thing, this issue has become worse in the recent years when it has brought mixed reactions from different parties and people in the society. This issue has raised much concern hence giving raise to children’s rights activism groups (Office, International Labour, 25). Child labor is the act of employing children who are not eligible to work as it is defined by the American laws. This practice is exploitative to children by several organizations and countries who say that child labor is illegal in those countries. Children are supposed to be taken care of and not to be exploited by doing chores that are not friendly to their growth and health. Although during the past century; child labor was not seen as a bad thing, this issue has become worse in the recent years when it has brought mixed reactions from different parties and people in the society. This issue has raised much concern hence giving raise to children’s rights activism groups. The cultural influences on the child labor have caused much damage to both children and the society (Office, International Labor, 25). This fifty six minute documentary was developed to show the effects of child labor on the children’s health, growth and the development of the society in general. The documentary ‘It takes a Child’ has done so much in the child labor campaigns, and it has compelled people to stop this immoral act. It has shown that child labor is an immoral act for both the growth of the economy and the growth of the future generation in the society. Child labor is disastrous such that, children are not able to grow into healthy people since they will be overworked and mistreated. In the development of a child, one needs to have humble and easy time for both the psychological and physical growth of the child. In the documentary, a 15 year old child labor activist, Mr. Craig Kielburger decides to work around the world to try and change the activities of child labor. At the age of 12, a child labor activist in south Asia was murdered in Pakistan. Craig immediately travelled to this country and the neighboring countries. He learnt a lot of things about child labor and this in turn made him want to fight for the rights of children. He became a child advocate for child laborers all over the world. He was more than determined to put child labor to an end; hence he started making this issue be an international agenda. During the production of this movie, he had hit fifteen years old. He founded a child-run non-governmental organization called Free the Children. The organization has gotten more than ten thousand members worldwide currently. It has raised more than 150 thousand dollars that it plans to use in building schools and freeing children who are being held as child laborers across all the continents. He has won several coveted awards including the Roosevelt Freedom Medal and the State of the world Forum award. He was also named a Global leader of tomorrow by the world economic forum in Davos. He continues to fight for the rights of children tirelessly to ensure that equality is being served around the world. A Judy film is an organization that produces documentaries about global issues and social justice. They have been able to win over sixty coveted awards internationally. They have been able to broadcast their documentaries in CBC news channel, TVO, the BBC, ITV, knowledge Network, and the Discovery channel in America. The Judy film has also been able to distribute its documentaries and films across all the continents. They have been able to reach quite a number of audiences through distributors like the Bullfrog in America, Connolly in Canada and Amnesty international has been able to supply the documentaries across the world. The Judy Film has also been able to be seen in the prestigious documentary and the human rights film festivals where it has managed to covet some awards from. Judy Jackson has been able to win several awards for her creative production of her documentaries. She has produced documentaries that are fighting for human rights. Judy Jackson has worked at CBC and has produced documentaries about the dictators in Chile, Argentina and Guatemala. She then worked in BBC, ITV and Channel Four in the United Kingdom, here she produced documentaries that were the ‘The hidden Holocaust’, and In Search of the assassins. She produced a film that resulted in to the government of Guatemala to prosecute the police who did injustices to Guatemala’s people. The film ‘They shoot children, do not they?’ helped the Guatemala people get justice that they had given up on getting. She has since returned to Canada where she produced and directed films such as the toughest job in the world’. At the age of twelve, Craig Kielburger travelled to India where he realized about the child laboring and all the discrimination that the children were undergoing at that place. He confronted the Canadian prime minister about the child labor and the effects it was causing on the children. The film ‘It takes a child’ explores this issue of working children and making them suffers without reason. The film was shot in three countries; Brazil, Philippines, and India. Child labour is caused by several factors in the society. Some of these factors include; child labour can be as a result of poverty in the society. Here, a family may be poor, and hence they do not afford any money to give the child the basic needs; hence, they send the child to work in order for the child to be capable of providing for the family. The film outlines how this factor forces children to fend for their families to enable their survival and provide the basic needs for the poor families. Child labor is caused by parental illiteracy, Craig shows this in his role in the movie where he shows how several parents send their young children to go and work because they cannot work themselves, These parents are poorly educated and hence they cannot be able to find any meaningful work to do thus they send their children to do odd jobs like being house servants so that they can benefit from the earnings of the children. Lack of education contributes significantly to child labor. When most parents in the developing world do not send their children to schools, they in turn send these children to work in factories as laborers. This is because these parents value money most than the future of children and the education value for their children are not taken into consideration by the society and other people. Ignorance also plays a hugely key role in causing child labor. This is shown in the film as we see many people in the society with child laborers are remarkably ignorant to the rights of children. Old fashioned people/people who do not have exposure to what they world is turning in to are most likely to put children in to child labor. These people are terribly ignorant about the education trends of the society today and what the benefits of education can do for the society in this era. The ignorant parties include leaders of the societies or countries in which the child labor is taking place, the employers of children are rated as ignorant as they do not take in to consideration of the rights of children, and finally the parents are to blame for their ignorance on letting children work for money instead of training these children to grow up morally upright and getting the right education that will enable them to live a better life. Employers who like to maximize their profits get to employ children that they can easily manipulate in to working and paying them devilish little. These employers have got no employment structure hence they look for cheap labour among the children. This deprives children off their rights as they are misused and mistreated to working for these employers. This can turn to be extremely terrible since most young children have got no strong immunity and children who are compelled to do heavy chores can end up getting sick and passing away. This is a terrible thing as it will deprive the society off its future citizens and government. Other people and societies insist on continuing with old family traditions. For example, people would put children to do heavy chores in the name of making the children grow up responsible people. It is true that children need to be shown the way by their elders but showing a child the way will not work if the child will be over worked and given chores that they can not be able to carry out. The documentary shows how most societies put most children through this kind of suffering and hence they destroy their future. Most children who are forced in to child labour find themselves at risk of contracting diseases or getting injured since they do not know how to protect themselves from work hazards that will spoil their lives for significant. Employers prefer children to do a number of tasks since children have got remarkably little ego and status of consciousness. Because of this, they are put to perform exceedingly demeaning jobs without much difficulty as children are more active and quick. The law enforcement authorities as shown in the documentary film were decidedly relaxed about the issue of child labor. This was due to the economic pressure and the corruption prevalence that was in the areas that were prone to child labor. Adult unemployment is also another cause of child labor. People who own factories find paying adults a unusually hefty task. They prefer employing children so that they can be able to manipulate them and be able to pay less. At the same time, there are lazy adults who do not like working, these people will force the children to get employed and in turn they will stay at their homes and continue reaping from the fruits of their children’s difficult and demeaning labor. This is also seen in the documentary as most parents just stay at home while their children do not go to school instead the children will work extraordinarily hard and then the parents will go to collect the wages that were meant to be for children and spend on their behalf. Craig engaged his profile in this movie and made the best of it. He spoke the points at which he did not like child laboring, and he pointed out why it needed to be eliminated from the society completely. Through his articulateness, he affects child laboring throughout the world by ensuring that children are kept safely, and that children are given the basic needs. This in turn gave rise to several child activism groups that were started in several countries and helped to save several lives of children. It is a compelling tale of the extraordinary young man that helped children in the world to care for in a better manner. Children need to be provided with education, medication, and parental guide and care until they are grown up to the age that they become adults. After which they can look for employment and start earning legally. The Judy film production has enabled the campaign against child labor to take root, and it has made sure that government authorities are taking action in eliminating child labor. The film production ha also ensured that several parties have joined their forces to eliminate this type of suffering from children and ensuring that the children will live a better life by getting their basic needs. Several government authorities have decided to take care of the poverty issue by starting free primary education and providing education to all children. These authorities have also made sure that all children must go to school and get knowledge regardless of the backgrounds of the family backgrounds. Laws have been set to ensure that children should not be forced into becoming laborers. These laws have been enforced, and children acts have amended to ensure that children are taken proper care of by their parents and guardians. These laws also state that children should not be forced to do difficult chores, the children should not be let to suffer at any costs, and that children should not be punished unlawfully. Governments should prioritize education and ensure that every citizen has got easy access to education as most governments have done. This has decreased the prevalence of child labour in several countries (Office, International Labour, 300). Work Cited Office, International Labour. Child labour: targeting the intolerable.
