Demonstrative communication Task Demonstrative communication Introduction Communication typifies the reception and sending of messages from unlike sources. This process entails the exchange of thoughts, data and messages through either speech, signals, writings and behaviors. However, communication can be either unwritten or nonverbal. Verbal communication is a form of communication that consists of written and oral communications whereas nonverbal communication entails the facial expressions, eye contacts and tone of voice among others. The paper draws attention on demonstrative communication that typifies nonverbal and unwritten communication. In demonstrative communication, the sender sends the right message and the receiver captures and understands it well before responding. Moreover, in demonstrative communication, individuals receive information through their senses and then create communication in form of facial expressions, body languages, eye gazes and blinking of the eyes among others (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). Demonstrative communication can be effective and positive As defined earlier, demonstrative communication refers to nonverbal or unwritten communication. Therefore, this type of communication involves sending and receiving wordless messages from the sender to the receiver. Demonstrative communication is effective or positive at workplace because it reinforces verbal communication, for example dressing properly, friendly demeanor and firm handshake at work place shows more information concerning thecharacter of an individual during job interviews. Most people at work place highly rely on these qualities in reinforcing the verbal performance. Demonstrative communication is effective at work place because an employee can tell that the other employee is friendly by the way he or she smile and speak in a cheerful manner(Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). Demonstrative communication is effective and positive at work place because it helps an individual in knowing what other people think about him or her because of the nonverbal signals that they exude. In addition, people can apply demonstrative communication at workplace in order to analyze people’s reactions for their own advantages. For example, when an organization specializes in selling houses and when they tell a client about the price for the house, the client’s reaction will help an organization in determining whether the price is accommodative or not. Demonstrative communication is beneficial at work place because it gives room for self-expression, whereas self-presentation tells more about and individuals’ personality. For example, in a workplace, a manager can dress in a smart suit to indicate that he or she is successful, whereas he or she can walk with confidence to indicate that he is the leader that is important because it allows them to command respect naturally (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). Demonstrative communication can be ineffective and negative Many people around the globe apply demonstrative communication in their daily chores without knowing it, for example in their hairstyle, clothing and symbols. Even though most of the demonstrative communication is positive, there are others, which come with negative implication. Therefore, people should apply demonstrative communication carefully because it can turn out to be imprecise, which can make it to be misread. At work place, demonstrative communication such as facial expression, gestures and appearances mean different things to different people. Consequently, people should avoid using demonstrative communication at work place because there is no rule that define different gestures and expression. Demonstrative communication is ineffective and negative at workplace because it lacks the complexity that the language offers. It is difficult for an employee to explain to his or her manager about a work place issue without using words unless she takes more time and still he or she will not convey information accurately (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). In addition, demonstrative communication is ineffective because it applies towards limited distance. For example, when people are talking on the phone and one-person nodes, this will not pass the agreement to the person on the other side. listening and responding in demonstrative communication The concept of demonstrative communication facilitates better understanding because of its use of advanced listening skills. The use of listening and responding in demonstrative communication is significant. This is because people must be exemplary listeners and respond accordingly during any demonstrative communication. Lack of sufficient listening fails the entire demonstrative communication process. People can use listening and responding while communicating demonstratively in several manners. This is because of the availability of comprehendible signs and other aspects of non-verbal communication (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). People listen through diverse manners during the demonstrative communication process. They can be passive listeners who respond through less active manners. For example, they can indicate that they understand what the other person is communicating. Their indication could also be in diverse forms depending on what they want to communicate. Someone could communicate that he/she wants certain items from the people who understand him or her. The use of listening and responding allows these people to offer what the other people want. Other people could use their hands to suggest that they want people to move near the places where they are located. The movement of the people proves that they listened to the communication that was executed demonstratively (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). This approach is instrumental when communicating with people whose ears are less effective or have infections. For example, it can entail aspects that do not focus on demonstrations entirely. The involvement of listening at this point of the demonstrative communication process avoids crises. For example, people need to be attentive during the demonstrative communication process. This will encourage them to respond in proper manners and in turn avoid misunderstanding. People can listen by observing the activities that take place around them. Neighbors could build extremely tall fences after they move into new neighborhoods. The old neighbors then understand that the neighbors would appreciate extreme privacies. The effective use of responses allows the old neighbors to stay way from the neighbors (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). Several aspects characterize responding during any demonstrative communication process. This aspect allows each participant in the demonstrative communication process to display fascinating characteristics. For example, they respond to situations by choosing certain types of clothing. They can decide to wear intensely decorated clothes to draw the concentration of other people. This response is necessary in demonstrative communication. The use of listening in demonstrative communication encourages people who see these people in bright colors to give the attention that they want. Their respond could be through respective indications of how outstanding the brightly dressed people are. For example, they can be told that they remind people of Christmas or the rainbow (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). There should be minimal talking during the demonstrative communication process. This does not suggest that there should also be minimal listening. People can use the concept of listening in demonstrative communication through several manners. They can choose to use the exiting types of listening skills to ensure the demonstrative communication is effective. For example, they can use active listening skills, which increase the effectiveness of demonstrative communication. Active listening encourages persons increase their respective attention to situations. Increased attention facilitates desired responses. For example, people give their neighbors adequate privacies when they build tall fences. Lack of attention would make these people assume the building of tall fences and in turn create conflicts in societies (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). Conclusion In the current society, many people apply demonstrative communication in their daily activities without knowing. For instance, if an individual waves, smiles or dresses in a certain style, it all acts as a form of demonstrative communication. It is important for people to listen and respond to demonstrative communication even though most people misread and misinterpret demonstrative communication. People should also keep in mind that demonstrative communication has both positive and negative sides, which will help them in knowing how and where to apply this type of communication.
