A degree in medicine - Admission/Application Essay Example

 A degree in medicine I was born and raised in Pelourinho city, an old, historic center of Salvador in Brazil. I was the first born in a family of three. After completion of my senior school where I scored a 2:1, my parents pushed me off to an early marriage because they believed that I was of age and needed to begin a family of my own. Luckily, I met this young man who was well off and he proposed to me. Two years later, I was married, and before I could even comprehend the change of status, I was pregnant with the first child.

Five years later, I was a mother of three. All my life, I always wanted to pursue a degree in medicine. This is because I had been brought up in a less privileged family with a poor background where medical care was the most difficult thing to come by per se. I felt that I had a burden of helping the less fortunate. I was among the privileged young women from that city who had seen the light of education so to speak. However, this opportunity did not present its self in an easy as I would have expected.

Just as I prepared myself to go back to school after almost six years of parenting my three kids, my husband who was a medical practitioner at the time decided to pursue his career a notch higher. I was left with no option other than giving him full support by putting my career on hold and raising our children for another five years as he attended Saint James Medical School in the capital city of Brazil.At the present, five years are over, and my husband has completed his Masters in Medicine.

Although time has gone so much, I still have the urge to pursue my dream career. I am certain that I will be able to accomplish this with the facilitation of your institution. Additionally I have a strong desire for knowledge. In fact, when I was young back in my maternal home, I occupied myself with treating some of the neighbors who were suffering from ailments that were less complicated like burns and cuts. In cases of complicated ailments, I would help the concerned people to rush the patients to hospitals that were nearby.

Moreover, during my free time I would go to the Pelourinho city library where I would, dedicate one or two hours for going through any literature that entailed medicine. This has gradually continued even in my marriage life where I spare some of my free time to go through the books that were being used my husband during his learning period. Having completed my degree program I am certain that I will be an excellent medical doctor. Ideally, I am one of the few young women who are dedicated to their work, for personal satisfaction and the will to help ailing people as opposed to working for money.

With all these mentioned activities, my fight and zeal towards my dream will be accomplished. I will be grateful if I am offered the opportunity to improve my life and that of the entire world beginning with the society. I am looking forward to hearing from you fruitfully. NameSign
