 1. Career goals: To occupy the managerial position in tandem with my qualifications and experience in a Hotel of international reputation is my immediate career goal, but that is not the be-all and end-all of my life’s ambition. This is the first step of the tall ladder, and the vast scope that my subject provides, to achieve something tangible and substantial in life. Being an international student, I am aware of my shortcomings in English language in particular. In the initial stages it has been a tough experience. I have been in America for about 5 years, and with exposure to different types of work areas and interaction with many people, my communication skills have improved, and now I am in a position to guide and coach other international students, either with love or for cost; I charge moderate tuition fees for teaching English language to the needy students. This supplementary income supports me to balance my budget to an extent. After gaining experience for two years, I wish to venture into my own by establishing myself as a consultant for event planning. Besides consultancy, I will take independent contracts for programs. My long term goal is to establish a boutique hotel with an underground Shopping Centre in America and subsequently open its branches in my country, Seoul, South Korea. My objectives are twofold. Establish and gain popularity for my brand name, and on the strength of the goodwill thus generated try to promote tourism industry in my country by sending regular batches of tourists from America. My country has tremendous potential to be a great place of tourist attraction. I have also made the preliminary study of the facilities being offered by commercial banks to entrepreneurs for initiating such ventures. 2. Financial need: Scholarship is the final solution for the series of problems that I face at present. International students are required to pay double the amount of tuition fees as compared to the native students. The fees are $10,000 per semester, which is an impossible option for me to meet. My earlier educational institution, the community college, was inexpensive and my parents had no problems to meet the moderate bill on my education. After getting admission to this university for the degree course in Hospitability Management, my parents are unable to meet the present high level of tuition fees. They are in Korea along with my elder brother. He is also a student in the university there and the scale of his tuition fees is high. My father owns a small scale industry, but due to the present poor economic conditions in Korea, the business prospectuses are not good and I cannot expect any financial support from him. If I am denied scholarship, the only option for me to wind up from America and get back to my country, and my ambition of becoming a degree holder in Hospitability Management, will remain as an unfulfilled desire. If I get the scholarship, I can fully concentrate on my studies and I assure you that I will clear the degree by securing a good rank and will cherish my association with University like yours, which has sterling world-wide reputation. 3. Activities and work Experiences: I am seized with the irresistible ambition to graduate from Johnson & Whales University with a degree in Hospitability Management and then achieve my career goals of working in international hotels like Hilton. At present, with my backgrounder information in the line, this may look like a big leap. My initial exposure was as a server at outback restaurant for about 4 months and then at Hotel front desk in Seoul, South Korea. Even as a boy, I was fascinated to learn about the work opportunities in America, and developed intense craving to build my future in this country. Hospitability Management is not only the tool for job hunting, for me it is the way of life, as I immensely enjoy meeting and interacting with the people. A big hotel is a place, where people of different nationalities arrive, newly wedded couple, married men and women with their children and senior citizens, their happy countenances and interactions are delights to watch. After high school graduation in February 2008, when I arrived in America in the month of August same year, it was the happiest moment of my life. With the experience and expertise that I have acquired so far, I think that this is the right time for me to make additions to my academic credentials. What Hospitality Management means to me: Working in this industry is passion for me. This is a competitive industry and human relations count a lot. Quality of food and quality of service are alternative beats of the same heart, in this profession. One has to be patient, possess positive attitude, understanding and knowledge. Clients hail from different nationalities, are a conglomeration of floating population, and their positive feedback is important to maintain and enhance the level of goodwill. A satisfied customer is the goodwill ambassador of the establishment of which I am the part. The science of catering and the in-service amenities provided in Hotels are constantly improving, and I need to not only keep up with the trends, but anticipate the future possibilities. With the credit of a good degree from your University and with the practical experience gained in America, I wish to create a chain of hotels and also build up such ancillary industries that will be of benefit to both the countries, South Korea and America. I visualize lots of scope for give and take business activities and collaborative entrepreneurship between the two countries. Hospitality industry has tremendous growth possibilities in the coming decades. Thank you for considering me for your scholarship. Sincerely, (Your Name) Read More
