Extract of sample "Reading Response Changing Images of a Continent by Cirino"

According to Cirino, many facts about the continent of Africa remained suppressed due to the paradoxical vision of Western historians and scholars. Cirino also holds the missionaries and the European explorers as well for the conception of Africa as a backward and Dark Continent which did not receive much light of development during the Enlightenment age as well partially. Crino also asserted that the ethnocentrism and the effect of the Nazism during and after World War II also averted many historians and scholars to review positively about the African people and the continent of Africa.

To explain this, Cirino takes the refuge of the example of the book entitled, “The Case of Freedom in Africa” by Joyce Cary which depicts the Africans as average and backward entity till date (Ofuho 150-156).
