Applicants Yvonne Amune Admissions Office of the College of Nursing (school location) Pursuing Life Goals (as a registered nurse) 01 January 2014Pursuing Life Goals in Nursing to Reach My Full PotentialsThe nursing profession has evolved from its humble beginnings starting with ideas of Florence Nightingale to become what it is today as a distinct and noble profession as a proud member of the health care team. Nurses provide essential services in the form of basic life support as the frontline medical personnel who gives important information to the patient and additionally coordinates patient care by proper assessment of health problems, maintain health records, and implement a nursing plan for patient recovery and to ensure well-being.

Tasks challenge me and the reasons why I want to shift to the nursing profession in pursuance of my larger and longer-term goals in life which are to eventually qualify and get a masters degree in research nursing leading to a meaningful and fulfilling work in a cancer research facility. I am 25 years old, married, and originally from Nigeria but migrated to the United States of America, had attended the Houston Community College and finally graduated with an Associates Degree in Science. I am presently enrolled with the Texas Southern University to get a Bachelors Degree in Healthcare Administration but after careful thought and a deep soul-searching process, finally decide to shift to the nursing industry as a professional in order to put my skills and talents to better use which I think are better suited in the field of nursing.

I already have five years of relevant working experience in the health industry working as a nursing assistant and working on average at least 72 hours per week. I really love what I do by genuinely caring for the patients under my watch despite the tiring work and often very long and odd hours due to the exigencies and demands of the nursing profession. I do not mind all the challenges as I am passionate about this type of work and feel real compassion for people. My work experiences and the related academic backgrounds in the health sciences in conjunction with my present college course in health care administration provide necessary or important foundation for a shift towards nursing because these fields are all inter-related.

This makes the transition to nursing much easier and facilitates the integration of knowledge when I study nursing in your university. However, the grades in my transcript were quite adversely affected by a sudden unforeseen major illness and then followed by a death in the family. The negative events happened between Fall of 2009 and Spring of 2010 which led to a temporary stoppage in my schooling but with this application, I intend to resume full time nursing study as I feel I had recovered emotionally and mentally from these personal ordeals.

Once accepted, I will devote all my time, efforts, and resoruces to give a very good account as a student in your prestigious school notwithstanding all those unfortunate events in the past which in hindsight gave a better perspective and outlook on what is important in life. I sincerely believe I possess the qualities necessary for the nursing profession such as a right mental attitude, vital leadership skills, strong personal initiative, sound judgment, very good decision-making ability, and perseverance to pursue my life goals and be somebody someday.

This academic institution provides the right educational opportunities for me to attain my goal and ambition in life which is to become a nursing professional in a challenging field. Perceived weaknesses include genuine empathy for patients and a natural curiosity which might hinder my duties as a nurse but all these can be offset by a good sense of humor, integrity, eternal aspiration for hope despite setbacks, a deep-seated spirituality, prudence in the face of conflicting demands on the profession, and a strong sense of fairness for a patient to be treated right like giving them vital medical information so they can make the right kinds of decision affecting their lives, in essence giving them freedom to make informed decisions.

I feel affinity for people so nursing is a good choice and also in terms of job growth outlook.Work CitedBureau of Labor Statistics. “Occupational Outlook Handbook: Registered Nurses.” United States Department of Labor. 29 Mar. 2012. Web. 01 Jan. 2014. .
