licts where the opponents are not evenly matched, it is rare for the war to end without there being an absolute winner since the more powerful party often brings all of its power to bear. Such stances should change because in the 21st century, wars should be fought for the purpose of deterrence and not for the glory of winning as was the case in earlier years. Some of the wars which have been fought throughout history have ended up in draws or stalemates. For war to end in a draw it means that neither party defeats the other completely, and that the belligerent agrees to halt the fight and settle for a draw rather than pushing for a critical result (SMITH 2012, p.289). However, in recent years, conflicts end up in a draw rather than a clear win for one side and a defeat for the other as seen in the case of Korea where the country was split into two rather than proceed with the conflict between rival parties.

The circumstance where such scenarios occur include the interstate and civil wars mainly because of the change of times making draws common over time. This is as a result of the effects of unintentional effects of peacekeeping as an element of managing conflicts. On the other hand, the reason of the chronological change in war effects must either be as a result of something that makes it difficult for either side to win entirely or something that makes it simple for belligerents who have arrived at a stalemate to reconcile and end their fighting.

For instance, issues like offense-defense balance, patterns of intervention, territory, population growth, and issues of salience also contribute towards a draw during wars or conflicts. Additionally, various conflicts have been put to an end by international mediation and other classic methods of conflict resolution this include conflicts in El Salvador, Namibia which was formerly South West Africa, Mozambique, Nicaragua, and Niger.
