Future Career Plan OUTLINE Introduction 3 Past Career Influences 3 Research Findings 4 Strong Interest Inventory 4 MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) 4 Major School Choices 5 Occupation/Value Table 5 References 6 Introduction Various factors come into play when considering the potential career that may be most suited for an individual with regard to the MBTI and Strong reports. These can be described as a means of determining an individual’s interests in combination with their work values and skills in a bid to help them decide based on the options that will have a higher chance of success (Hooley, 2012). The reports can help an individual to choose a suitable career path that is tailored to an individual’s specific characteristics. Both the Strong Interest Inventory and the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) serve to determine positions that are most suitable for an individual in various areas be it academic, leisure or professional activities. Using the results from these reports, one is able to identify areas where they have a higher chance of success. Past Career Influences One of the issues that should be observed when dealing with the choice of a career path is the past influences that may play a part in the final decision. This could be because of the experience that an individual underwent in these times (whether positive or negative) and the overall effect that such experiences could have on a person’s mindset. There are a number of past influences that could be considered in this case such as the external factors that played a role in enhancing the level of attractiveness of a particular position as well as the resulting outcomes that fell into place at the end of that particular experience (Hooley, 2012). A combination of these influences could play a large role in the final decision that is made by an individual. In this case, in particular, some of the past influences that can be considered would be the careers that older individuals had around me as well as the smaller part time positions that were occupied on occasion during weekends and school holidays. Other past influences deal with the nature of the work that was available as well as the level of enjoyment that one was able to achieve from taking part in such activities. In this case, this would mostly deal with positions that were largely socially interactive of financially attractive in terms of remuneration, which had a positive impact on the level of enjoyment that was to be had at that particular point in time. Research Findings There are a number of results that one can use to obtain the best possible career path that is available to them using the two reports. These results will be based on a number of elements that arise from the design of the Strong Interest Inventory and the MBTI. These designs are customized to place an individual in what can be termed as general groups (or themes) from the type of interests and values (Hooley, 2012). Through studying these results, one is able to determine the final potential career that may be suitable for them. A summary of the results of both in this case include: Strong Inventory Interest–The resulting Theme code from the chart presented by this system is CER Conventional, Enterprising and Realistic. The combination of these themes that form the theme code of an individual can be used to determine their suitable career path because of placing various professions in certain areas and according to these charts. The main interests in my case are namely sales, finance and Investing and this can be seen as the main direction that my career path is likely to take according to the measured interests. MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator)– This report serves the same purpose as the Strong Inventory Interest and help an individual in choosing paths in their lives that will be most suitable for them. According to the MBTI, the reported type was INFP (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling and Perceiving). Various careers fall under this category and using an indication of an individual’s personal interest, the top five popular careers that can be chosen by an individual with these particular traits include: 1. Commercial art director 2. Social science research assistant 3. Psychiatrists 4. Veterinary assistant 5. Musician, singer, music director, composer From the above choices, the fifth option can be said to be the most attractive with an interest in music being the main reason behind the choice of attraction. The role of musician and composer in particular serve as the most attractive career paths that would hold the most attraction. The occupation of a musician is not as traditional as most professional occupations and thus requires a fair level of commitment. The education requirements though existing in some occupations are not very stringent as experience and skill have a bigger role in the capability of an individual. This can be said to be because creativity is the most needed feature in such occupations and this is something that can only be acquired via professional training up to a certain level. The salary can also be said to vary because of the different levels of success that an individual is able to attain. The higher the level of achievement, the more moneypotentially earned. The working conditions are usually laid back and friendly and usually revolve round a mellow atmosphere enables those involved to get comfortable. Major School Choices The main schools were chosen according to a number of factors such as the cost as well as the academic choices that were available with regard to music and performance arts. The main schools that were retrieved from this search included; Bowling Green State University, California State University East Bay and Georgia Southern University. The location and atmosphere of the Universities also had a large role in the choices made as such factors tend to influence the level of issues such as concentration in class and overall comfort of an individual.
